The top ten croissants in Paris seems like a bold claim to me. Honestly, if you're visiting Paris, odds are good you're going to enjoy every croissant you eat while you're here. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go out of your way for one or two of these delicious croissants - assuming you love butter in its flakiest form 🥰
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over five years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off KZfaq? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
Thanks for watching!

As a bakery owner (in Belgium) I can tell you that the price of butter in the last year and a half is much higher than it used to be, and this is one of the reasons many bakeries are using margarine (and you can obviously feel the difference in taste and texture). The difference in the prices probably comes from the different locations as well. Kayser is not bad for a chain (and I love their financier pistache!). And I have to say, even though my husband is baking since he was a teenager, taking classes in the Ritz and in Cordon Bleu really made a difference in our croissants game. Love it! Thank you as always for the video!

You're most welcome! One of the questions I asked Apollonia that didn't make the cut was how they make money on croissants given the amount of labor that goes into them and she said it's a labor of love. I imagine the rising price of butter only compounds that. I'll have to put her full interview up on Patreon, I think it was a fun insight. Thanks for sharing yours!🥐🥐

I returned to work after a month in France and had a taste for a croissant and coffee. I bought one at my office’s pastry shop. I could tell right away it was a mistake. It was cold and heavy. I took one bite and threw it out. I’ve become the croissant snob I always feared.

Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Terroirs d'Avenir on Rue De Nil. I'll admit, and to your point at the end, I have not had that many croissants in Paris (yet), my wife and I found those ones to be excellent. it will be one of the first places we hit when we get back to Paris. That whole street (Rue to Nil) is pretty cool with little shops for meat, cheese, fish etc. worth a stop if you are in the area.

They all are a little different but still better than anything I can find here in Arizona. I am sure it is hard to rate them because they each have unique characteristics. Which I didn’t realize. There is no perfect croissant 🥐. It comes down to what you like and what the baker likes making. :). So cool. Thanks Jay

Good video. Cedric Grolet and the café en Hôtel Cheval Blanc also get a lot of hype for good reason, but they are crazy expensive because of the locations and packaging so not just on taste. From an economic perspective, you can’t really justify them, but maybe worth a try if you’re feeling ‘fancy’. Also, it seems based on my experience that you have to control for time of day (or at least time out of oven). Oh, and you were just down the street from my old flat when you went to Farine & O- love Rue de Martyrs

There was a croissant I really liked while I was there and there are (were) two places in the US that match the texture of it that I can accept - one used to be a French bakery located in two Las Vegas hotels, and then there's Paris Baguette anywhere else. Definitely inauthentic and I don't like the sweet glaze they put on top, but for a flaky outside and soft inside, I'll take what I can get. Costco croissants absolutely suck.
