i am an autistic girl and it's hard to count how much i cried watching the four episodes available on Netflix (in my country it's only 4 so far). I am a type 1 anxious autistic so i am a little different than her, but even in the drama it is explained how autism is a spectrum! But i do relate to her so so so much, i feel so happy with this drama. I couldn't stop crying when she had that little romantic scene with the other protagonist, this show really is showing how we autistic people are also humans, able to feel love, sadness, happiness, all emotions! It's so rare to see autistic representation in movies and stuff, and usually when it has it is always the same stereotype (male, never expresses any emotions, no romance or friends) when we autistic people are as diverse as neurotypicals. We really need more representation like this.

Spring Sunshine scene is one of the deepest scenes I've seen in film making. It came out of the blue. They were supposed to be joking around and things went deep down my heart in a split second. I was both in awe and tearing up. What a delicate true gem of a show. Hallyu is real.

It's genuinely one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. I got the impression that Su-Yeon is very used to being appreciated for her looks (and make no mistake, they're important to her too), so to have someone so directly and unabashedly lay out why they appreciate her as a person really pulled the rug out from under her. Even people who did know her on that level probably would have still complimented her appearance, but Young-Woo just doesn't even see that note and her comments hit just that much closer to home for it.

Su Yuon and woo young were not friends in law school but still su yuon helped out woo young in many small ways that woo young deeply appreciated but was unable to express that. Here in that scene su yuon learns just how much she meant to woo young. She expected a humorous nick name based on her looks but got something she didn’t expect. Something much deeper It’s a great scene.

That scene, when she went to see her mother both times, when her brother called her big sis, and when she questioned him on the stand, when she called her dad asking can i make her bf happy, when she became friends with her best friend outside of school. As a Mum of a daughter who has level 2 Autism, some of the things Woo Young Woo did made me laugh out loud & reminded me of my daughter - walking away whilst someone is talking to her, asking her to help you & she bluntky says no & walks off, the ham tasting different in gimbab & picking it out & loud noises distressing her. It's so endearing. I'm waiting for the meltdowns & masking to happen...

As a mom of a son who also has level 2 autism, I agree!! I laughed when she was following her coworker around, info-dumping him on whales. My son does the same thing to me except he has multiple topics of interests. And I agree with you about masking. Girls are known to mask which is why it’s much trickier diagnosing girls rather than boys. This series hasn’t touched up on that but it’s still very enjoyable (and relatable) to watch.

As a person who works with autistic people, I feel very happy with this drama because it has shown with delicacy and respect what it is like to live with autism. In particular I am incredibly impressed with Park Eun Bin as she has been careful with a lot of details, even in the smallest, she is admirable. Park Eun Bin is a psychologist in real life and that explains why she has so much knowledge and respect for the autism spectrum. She said that she wanted to be the first to understand and respect Woo Young Woo. In addition, she is a virtuous and prodigious actress, that is why this series has conquered hearts all over the world and is showing the authentic beauty and characteristics of these people, taking us through a delicate journey to a better understanding. When you see Park Eun Bin playing piano or violin, or riding a horse brandishing a sword interpreting a king masterfully (in the king’s afeection) you realize that you are facing an actress like few are seen in each century!!
@jass254

what is masking?
@hnam528
@hnam528 Жыл бұрын
@@jass254 it's when autistic people observe how people socialize and try to learn and mimic what they are doing as a way to blend in with everyone else. in the process of doing so, they suppress a lot of their "autistic traits" because of their desire to fit in. girls are more likely to behave in this way (although boys can certainly do this as well) and appear "normal", which is why girls are massively underdiagnosed compared to boys.

This show is absolutely BRILLIANT. As the Father of a Son on the Autism spectrum, there is so much that Eun-bin really encapsulates, things maybe someone who is unfamiliar with Autism or a family member of an Autistic person would recognize. The fact that she never looks anyone directly in the eyes and when she does it's only for a brief second or two is something that really stood out to me immediately. I have cried so many times and laughed so many more watching this brilliant work of art. f you enjoyed Woo, I may also suggest the French Astrid et Raphaëlle on Prime. I believe that Woo is a South Korean re-make of Astrid (no disrespect intended, countries quite frequently remake popular foreign TV shows with their own cultural spin). Astrid, like Woo, is an autistic savant but Astric helps solve crimes. You can see that Sarah Mortenson's Astrid is likely the model for Woo. Mortenson does a brilliant job as Astrid. If you enjoy Woo, I highly recommend Astrid. Both actors are remarkable in their respective roles.

@andrea guevara I agree. I did not like Love on the Spectrum but I adore Extraordinary Attorney Woo. You get the feeling that the people who know her best and understand her never talk down to her. They treat her like a neurotypical but then fill her in or give her tips if she's doing something due to anxiety or her executive functioning is compromised at a certain time or whatnot. I love that because I tend to infodump when anxious too and then I often feel more anxious later. I am anxious so much of the time that I immediately clicked with her character for wearing her headphones all the time.

Im an autistic girl too!! This drama felt like a breath of fresh air!! I was so scared to watch it because so many times the media gets it wrong and I've felt like there is no one i can relate too when I am watching tv shows and dramas. It feels isolating and like I am constantly doing something wrong. I spent 18 years of my life undiagnosed and not knowing what was wrong with me. Then I got my diagnosis but I was just thrown into the world to figure it all out myself. When I started the show, I knew what made me autistic and how my autism makes me different, but as I've watched each episode I've found myself discovering new things about myself and its pushed me too actually learn how the disorder works on neurological level rather than just be ashamed of it and how to hide it away. The show is so articulate on all these topics it manages to cover in 16 episodes. I've never in my entire life been able to relate to a character on such a deep and sincere level. Im so forever greatful for this show and the actors did such an amazing job♡

The episode with the big man with autism is basically my life with my brother. Hand mannerisms, fondness of music, sensitivity to loud noises, panic attacks when brain is overloaded with information, and even his attachment to me as a big brother. I remember my parents always reminding me when I was still young, to never feel jealous, to never resent, and to understand that I will grow old with my younger brother right beside me, that our lives being intertwined is a lifetime deal. So many reminders that my future plans have been basically built around him. Sure my life is a tad bit different, a tad bit more difficult than a normal one, but I like it just the way it is.

You may find Astrid et Raphaëlle one Prime to be to your liking. I think that Woo is a take-off of Astrid, which was made in 2019. I don't mean that in a negative way. It is common for different countries to make their own spin of foreign TV shows that reflects their own cultures. Anyway, Astrid is about an autisitc records clerk with idectic memory that becomes a police consultant. Sarah Mortenson does a remarkable job as Astrid and you can see the influence that show has on Woo. Woo though I think develops a more intriguing plot, but Astrid tends to be more case oriented. Eun-bin is so talented! It was good to see how she was careful in wording her responses and explaining her role as Attorney Woo. I was deeply moved that she did not try to replicate others' work, but rather create her own character based on the autism rating scales (It was mentioned in another clip.) and I think it's because she majored in psychology. And wow, she is so polite. As a Korean, I can really feel how she respects others from her words. Wow. I want to be her friend too!!!!!!!!!! And one more thing; I'd like to applaud the editors of this channel. They asked various questions that helped her explain how she understood the character (from different aspects?)... and helped us understand Youngwoo's behavior or facial expressions.

i am disappointed in the people unjustly mad at Park for portraying an autistic character. woo young-woo has opened up my knowledge about the autism spectrum. the way she showed how this certain type of autism works is incredible. great show, love the plot. :)
@kpaxian6044
@kpaxian6044 Жыл бұрын
I agree. I am on the spectrum and for the first time in my life I saw a character do something I have always done but never knew was due to being autistic. (I make the same humming sound in my throat sometimes before I answer or when I am thinking. I also noticed that I do mildly repeat the words of people sometimes...but I never thought of it as echolalia. It was not scripted or thought through...it just came out as if on autopilot. Today someone was joking about her kids being all talk, and I nodded and said "all talk" but have been paying more attention to when I do this now. It's usually not a long sentence. For me it's short, sometimes said quickly and almost without thought. I find it happens more when I am stressed. So this show has taught me more about myself too. So I could never be angry about Park Eun-bin playing such a role. I do think more autistics would like to see others on the spectrum be considered but in this case it looks like it was a fantastic fit. The issue some have too is not just that a neurotypical is playing an autistic but that some who are not autistic can make a mockery of the neurotype and I think it creates anxiety. But in this case I think she was a perfect choice. Absolutely adore her character and her acting is top notch!

When you see Park Eun Bin playing piano or violin in “Do You Like Brahms?” or riding a horse brandishing a sword interpreting a king masterfully in “The king’s afection” you realize that you are facing an actress like few are seen in each century!!

I feel like Korean actors and actresses in general put in their all for their characters, they research it and make sure they give a proper representation of their character but not imitating another. That’s very respectable. Even to the writers, they wrote in small details that help deepen the characters plot and overall likability.

Park Eun-bin is such an amazing actor for many reasons. She respects the characters that she plays. They don't come across one-dimensional to us because they are not perceived as such by her. She is able to develop a really good rapport with her costars. I've seen quite a few behind-the-scenes videos of EAW and her other drama series. She is often laughing or happily chatting with her costars. This says a lot about her ability to create an ambiance, not only as the character for the audience, but also as a fellow actor and human for the cast and crew. She is genuinely humble and frequently includes the efforts of other people in her interviews. She seems to understand well the gift and responsibility of the opportunities given to her. Her positivity and sense of appreciation comes across as sincere. She is a rare one.

I appreciate this drama, especially as an autistic person. Initially I feared that her character would be reduced to the trope of 'genius autistic character' that we see so much of, but I'm so glad there was more than that! She knows a lot, but there is always room for error for her, in a good way. It's more based on her being a rookie for making miscalculations. than it would be for the fact that she so happened to be autistic. She is such a mood watching this, especially when she goes on rants with explaining the things that she love, like whales! I think the episode that did it for me was episode three, where she had an autistic on the severe end of the spectrum. I admire how they were real with what autism really meant, and how for most cases autistic individuals aren't always 'geniuses', but they should still have a right to live and to be understood. There were a lot of scenes I enjoyed, Young-Woo asking for advice on how to bond with an autistic person as he happened to do it with her, there was the scene the autistic client went back to the agency because of how they sung his ABSOLUTE favorite song. A lot of moments felt real, especially with how Ypoung-Woo did not shy, away from how it felt being an autistic adult, even if she wasn't a severe case. She didn't feel as if she was being taken seriously, she began to believe that...she wasn't a real attorney. Made me cry like crazy, I love this show!

Her innocence is endearing and her relationship with Jun-Ho is so heartwarming and wonderful, I'm on the edge of my seat each time they have a quiet moment together. The reality of how an autistic person is viewed in today's society, is painful but this show gives one hope that the perception could change. I'm on Episode 14 and I just don't want it to end. My thanks to Park Eun-bin and all the outstanding cast for "extraordinary" viewing pleasure.

My older brother has Asperger syndrome, it's a high functioning level, he seems completely normal on the outside. But he has a different way of seeing things, to other's he can sometimes seem rude when in his eyes he's just stating facts. I really related to episode 3, I felt the same way Young-woo's father did. It can be lonely, my brother struggles to understand other's emotions, I can be in pain but he won't realise it. In reverse I can see how much my brother struggles too, he can burst and talk a lot suddenly like when Young-woo talks about Whales, because he has something in him he's passionate about but the other person won't understand. Mum always says let him be, let him talk, it makes him happy.

I found the series "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" out of the blue on Netflix, probably because I had been searching for legal dramas. Little did I know before starting that I was on one of the best shows I've ever seen. The performances by Park Eun-bin is just exquisite and SOOO captivating. I'm no expert in autism, but can't fail to find my self engaged and forced to bring my attention the issue. Pretty much all other performances are excellent as well, and the different cases are interesting AND the multiple story plots progress nicely into an inspiring and impactful conclusion. I also got to learn a bit about South Korea which is very nice. But at the end of the day, Woo Young-Woo is such a fascinating and inspiring character full of positive inspirations. This show feels like once in a lifetime show.

If you enjoyed Woo, I may also suggest the French Astrid et Raphaëlle on Prime.
