Can't afford a $500/month payment then you should have enough fiscal responsibility and intelligence to not add a debt you're incapable of paying for. I bought my first truck in high school for $1500 I saved up the money, while helping dad pay bills and make ends meet. Sure the truck was a beater, but I drove it until the wheels literally fell off. It lasted me for 3 years. By that time I'd worked a job long enough that I was able to save up enough money to buy myself a much newer and a bit nicer truck for 8k. Rode that through my first 4 years of college. Then sold it to my buddy. Gramps passed away and I inherited his truck. Been driving that for 7 years now. If a dumb high school kid could figure out how to handle his business, I have to believe an "adult" should be able to too.

@@fire_fux So you had parents that you lived with, you had a means to travel to and from work (assuming your parents) and could afford to buy a car. You "helped" your dad with bills, meaning you weren't fully responsible for bills. So cool you had help, weren't in a desperate situation, and didn't NEED a vehicle to live.
