Jardine parrots are supposed to be FABULOUS! They are rare though- Why don't I have one in my flock? Only because you have to make choices. I can't accommodate one of each kind- if only I could...

I Think 'Cape' dosn't refere to clothing in this case, but to a coastal line (Cape of Good Hope). The german name of this parrot is Kap-papagei, and we use 'Kap' only in this geographic way.

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought that the African Cape parrots were specifically one species of parrot that is from the cape in Africa. P. Ribustus. In the US we only have P. fuscicollis fusciollis, as I've been told. Of course, parrots have different names in diff countries, scientific name excluded. Thanks for posting, it's cool to hear the German name and see how similar 'Kap' and 'Cape' are. Do you have a lot of parrot species available in Germany? How are the prices?

Cape refers to the Cape Province in South Africa - same family Poicephalus

Yes. Here in the US we just say “Cape” even thought what we have here is now a mix of the two other species. We have no f. Robustus here.

That's what I figured, that a Jardine's is not on the top of your list to add to the flock because you already have a slightly larger version of a Jardine's parrot, which is the Cape parrot. And, you also have Senegal, which is also related to a Jardine's parrot.

My jardines is 21 month now, but she isnt that mellow. She has mellow phases and pretty energetic during day. Is this because of her young age?

Not sure what Jardines are like in comparison to other parrots because I haven’t observed them. My Capes play, but they are mellow compared to others like my Caiques. Is your male more calm? How are they?

@@ParrotBliss I only have a Female, she is handraised and she is very scared by other birds😥. i would love to have a friend for her. Our 14 month Senegal is much calmer. when the senegal gets closer than a meter, she flies away screaming and hides. even if a small bird flies by 20 meters away outside, she flies away and looks for a hiding place. but she is very cuddly and i can do almost anything with her. she is absolutely relaxed when you grab her by her back and lift her up.

@@markus7440 sorry, confused you with someone with Jardines- It’s odd that she is so scared of other birds. Do you know how she was raised? Hand-fed? Alone?
