This is one of three Torah portions that are named after a person. What do these three portions have in common? Though he was a highly regarded man in Israel, Korach was a wicked man. What do the Hebrew letters in his name teach us about his character? And how did Korach’s followers commit suicide? This portion contains the Hebrew word that has the highest numerical value of any word in the Torah. What does it teach us about God’s sovereignty? And what do almonds have to teach us about God’s watchfulness?

This is absolutely incredible .👏👏👏I am so happy that I have found your channel! I have learned so much, and I haven't even watched all of your videos yet. There is just so much wisdom, and I really appreciated all that you share with us. I am sorry if I write too much, however, I am so excited about this "new " thing that God is doing in my life currently. This specific video, gave me an answer about something that I was just asking God about...so, I am truly happy to see this video. Thank you for obeying God in sharing Him with us by the knowledge He had given you, and you giving us the understanding of that knowledge , and the wisdom how to apply that knowledge. Shabbat Shalom

Hi Grant! THank you for an amazing teaching yet again. The wife and I use your teaching for our devotional time and it has been so uplifting. Is the spelling of Korach קֹרַח or קורח ? Why are there sometimes different spellings for names?

The only spelling I am aware of is קרח. Can you give me a reference that has an alternate spelling? Thank you!

@@grantluton I was googling resources for the portion and both spellings have resources on Korach. For example, found this wiki page: he.wikipedia.org/wiki/קורח

@@inourfreetime4479 I did a little more research, and I think I found the answer. The only way Korach's name is spelled in the Bible (Tanakh) is קרה. There is not a single instance when it is spelled with a vav (קורח). But the Wikipedia article lists Korah's name WITH the vav because (I think) that is how it would be spelled in modern Hebrew. Otherwise, the word קרח would mean "hair removal" (or even "ice"). Modern Hebrew must include the vav to distinguish "Korah" as a proper noun. Hope this helps!

Thank you Grant as allways for your lessons, much appriciated. This time i do have a comment: what about the torah portions also named after a person: besides the 3 you named. The portion of Noach and also Yitro ? Do i miss something or is this a test 🙂 And once i'm here, Korach was not a Jew but a Levite. Anyways, looking out for the next teaching, Shalom.

Good catch! I forgot to say "Torah portions named after Jews", but then there is that problematic "Balak" portion, isn't there! Anyway, thanks for being the only person to catch this mis-statement. Keep up the good work!

@@grantluton Isn't the term "Jews" derived from the name Judah from Tribe of Judah, therefore it's correct that Korah is NOT a "Jew" but a "Levite" being from the Tribe of Levi. A very common mistake.
