Hi Ashley Thanks for your knowledge sharing, really helpful.I'm new to this but through lockdown, i started growing and now am excited about making creams, infusions and tinctures. How do I know what type of compounds in the plant that I'm trying to extract? if that makes sense! Also ive grown a couple of cannabis plants and would like to make an oil infusion with them for health benefits, I'm told I can use the male plant's leaves for this, is that true and what's the best method? Can I use this same plant for making healing creams etc? Also I saw someone on youtube was drying and grinding the herbs finely first, then stirring in a measure of alcohol until it was soaked in and absorbed and then doing oil infusion process, what do you think of this idea @Ashley!? Many thanks

I Love your spunk and excitement for what you're doing. That said, regarding non organic simply because it's only going on your skin is a bit skewed in our teachings. Anything that goes on your largest organ and can be absorbed is in fact going INSIDE so, personally, I'd stick to pure organic everything 🍀💐. Thank you for your interesting and helpful videos! Have a Blessed Night 😇🙏💖💫

Becky Lewis, as I said, some of the oils it doesn’t matter if they are organic or not as the plant isn’t really sprayed. I never said that if it’s topical you don’t need organic! Only that edible oils can always be used topically, but not all topical oils can be used internally. But on some of the oils buying organic isn’t necessary, as they aren’t commonly sprayed so there isn’t much difference between them, it’s more about the label. I TOTALLY agree that the skin is the largest organ and it very much matters what you put on it! I’ve built my entire business and practice on this principle for the last 22 years, so no argument from me there! What I’m not a fan of is labels that imply something is healthier JUST because it’s organic, even when there isn’t much difference between a certified organic product and a non organic product, only money and a label. So if practices between organic farming and non organic farming are almost identical, I don’t feel buying the “certified” option is necessary or wise! Hope that clears things up! ❤️

Someone told me that lower iodine indices of an oil makes it more suitable for extraction (than oils with higher indices). Is this a rule of thumb regardless of the type of material? What is the cut off point regarding what is effective and not please? Can the fat also be butters like shea butter (whose iodine index appears to be apx 59), melted with mild heat? Thanks

Hey Ashley, have you ever heard of Kudzu? Well I been thinking on it for years. God put it on Earth, and now it is plentiful, so I been thinking, it has to be good for something. I wanted to make a resin tincture without alcohol for gums. It would be used as a mouth wash or for gum issues after surgery. What is better to use, oil or acv?
@jcaloysius6637
@jcaloysius6637 5 жыл бұрын
Probably acv. An oil based is likely going to risk dislodging any dental work similar to how oil pulling will pop caps or pull fillings. Plus acv w/ the "mother" adds an extra kick as far as medicinal benefits.

I was looking to infuse fresh lavender into oil. I’ve seen some people using salt to absorb moisture. Is that necessary?
@phileofarm1
@phileofarm1 5 жыл бұрын
Charity Agbor, are they adding salt to the oil, or to the herbs first to draw out moisture? I never use salt in any way with my infused oils, except when I actually want salt in the mixture which is the case with a few bath oils. For lavender I just de-stem the fresh buds, then let them wilt for 12-24 hours, and then infuse. I’ve never had any problems with lavender oil going rancid so far with this method. Lavender typically doesn’t have a high moisture content, so you don’t have to worry too much, but with all fresh flowers I make a practice of letting them wilt first, before infusing into oil. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for responding. I watched a video of someone who layered dried lavender with salt into a glass jar. I thought it was a little too much salt going into it and I was a little thrown off. I’ll try out what you recommend. Thanks again

Sessy A. Absolutely! I do that all the time as well! Some plants don’t infuse well after being dried, as their chemical structure changes when they dry, but most infuse quite well when dried! So the short answer is YES, and the long answer is: depends on the plant and what you are trying to extract from the plant and what you are using it for! 😊

So using coconut oil would not be recommended?? I know it hardens when cooled, but I kind of like the idea of it being infused for my aged skin
@phileofarm1
@phileofarm1 4 жыл бұрын
Shona Magouyrk Saffold, you can totally make coconut infused oil, but it is less nourishing to aging skin than many of the other oils available, and you will need to heat extract your herbs, to keep the oil liquid and where it can infused. Heat infusion works great, it’s just a slightly different infusion process!

@phileofarm1
@phileofarm1 4 жыл бұрын
Aby Koukoutsi it could work! You need to make sure the flowers are wilted, so they don’t mold in the oil, especially if you have it in the dark. Make sure you have a cloth over the top so moisture can evaporate off as it brews, and check it and stir often! ❤️
