How much of a sound improvement can we get by changing the power supply? And the Lumin are expensive as is, shouldn’t they be supplying a decent PS up front? 🤔 Love your work 👍🏻

Everything is built to a price point, and some of the higher end Lumin models include linear power supplies. There are also different quality level SMPS designs and some very high end products use an SMPS which outperforms linear supplies (Jeff Rowland Design Group for example.) It should also be noted that on Lumin products with an internal SMPS modifying them to allow the use of a third party linear supply will effectively void the manufacturer's warranty.

Sound aside, I always believe LPS will work better than SMPS. However, Bill rightly pointed out, there are some products out there perform really well with SMPS. To each his owns, I bet :)

LHY should make a star-grounded power distributor. Those can make a big difference to system sound quality as well, yet there are not so many and they all seem to start at $US1,0000 or more.

Which LPS power supply (25/50/80) would you recommend for the Lumin U1 Mini?

I'd recommend the LPS25VA / LPS80VA for more headroom when it's needed :)

After seeing the inside of the U2 mini, I am very happy with my decision to purchase the Aurender N150. Yes, it's $1,100 more than than the U2 mini but it comes with a linear power supply built-in, a built-in super-capacitor-based uninterrupted power supply (UPS) an internal ssd (solid-state) 240GB caching drive. Files play flawlessly with this system setup. Also, you can add a 8tb ssd to a storage bay on the unit. It's head and shoulders better built than the Lumin. Think Korea (think Astell & Kern) Oh, how does it sound? GREAT! No Roon- who cares...

Yeah, no Roon, and that was the single reason I decided on the U2 versus the N150. Otherwise your reasons were mine as well, I would also have gone there.

@@keeferdog5617 I'm sure it is, but I purchased Roon outright a year or two ago. Absolutely love the software. But I wish that the low-end Lumin had an integrated LPS. With a small cache. (although it may have a small cache anyway)
