Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this. I have a 89 HE in storage and although I think the rear is all fine, I may one day take it out for a overhaul. It's done 80,000 miles. Roger.

Thanks for these videos, Jon - I've got a 1989 3.6 Manual XJ-S Coupe in the same colour and I'm about to embark on the same job. It's done 31k miles, so age rather than mileage, is the reason it needs to be done. Like your car, I'm also running the original brake discs, callipers, probably brake pads as well. It's all a bit rusty under there so I'm not looking forward to getting some of those fixings undone. I think I'll also replace the exhaust system at the same time with an SS one with the front silencers deleted for a bit more growl. Watching your trials and tribulations has given me the inspiration to get it up on ramps and tackle it, but not until the end of the month! Good luck with your car and happy Jagging 🙂

Thanks very much for putting this video together, and all the others as well. I am in the midst of doing much of the same work to my 86 coupe and the rear subframe is one of the bigger parts of it. Who would've thought a simple bushing could cause such a fuss!

I bought a 1986 XJS V12 in 2001 and sold it in 2004. Wished I still had it but it was a PITA to restore.

Be sure to chock your front wheels with the rear wheels on a ramp. I made that mistake and my Xj rolled off and nearly broke my legs.

A really good point, the front wheels were chocked though before the stands were put in position; the handbrake was on and the gearbox was in "park" as well so she really wasn't going anywhere.

Hi where did you get the first 3/4 of the exhaust from :)😀😀

The mid section came from a firm in Northampton but I am unable to remmember the name now; however, the whole exhaust system has now been replaced with a stainless one from Simply Performance, the mild steel one is available.
