*ALL SUPPLIES NEEDED IN AMAZON STOREFRONT NOT GOOGLE SHEET* (apart from bookcloth and book board)
Part one of a 6 part series on how to rebind your books into the penguin clothbound classic aesthetic. This video covers all the supplies you need to rebind your own books!

All supplies mentioned are linked in my amazon storefront, linked here:
www.amazon.com/shop/thatsmybo...
**I can't remember if I mention that the Cricut Joy will work for these, but if you want to make books in the same style as I am, with that box outline around the front and back cover, the Joy machine only cuts 4.5 inches wide, which is smaller than the majority of the the books I've rebound. My cover designs are normally 5-6 inches wide for paperback and hardback rebinds. So the next cheapest Cricut is the Cricut Joy xtra/xl (can never remember the name of it, but it just came out in the past year) and that cuts 8 inches wide, which is more than enough to make covers similar to the penguin clothbounds**
Bookcloth and book boards purchased from:
bookcraftsupply.com - they ship internationally and also have an Etsy store under the same name. I get the majority of my bookcloth from them.
I buy custom cut boards from here:
hollanders.com

There is just something special about someone willing to share their craft with the world and not wanting anything in return. Thank you so much.

I’m so glad you did this. I want to bind Coraline as a gift for my mother. She drove 4 hours so I could take her to see it. We both love the movie, and she has a good sized library in her den. I think this would be a great gift….now to find one for my Pops.

Your artwork is absolutely spectacular. Your Harry Potter books are my favorite for the attention to detail and plot points you include with the Cricuit cutouts 😍

This is fantastic! I would really love to start this myself, however I'm a little hesitant to buy the machine (sorry, I've forgotten what it's called) for £200 until I know it's going to be worthwhile for me. Do you have any other suggestions as to how you would make your own cover while keeping it looking professional? Thank you 😊

First off, check your local library. In the US and Canada I’ve had people tell me that some of theirs do have Cricuts (that’s the name of the machine) available for patrons to use! However I’m also going to make a budget rebind tutorial after I finish this main series that will cover a way to do your covers with much cheaper tool. It’s called a foil quill if you want to start looking into it, they run about $20-30 in the US.

It looks like all your books are still the same height, like the Penguin editions are. How do you accomplish that? Are you super picky on heights with which paperbacks you start with?

Can someone please help me with the glue I read the label as pH neutral, but in the video, the words do not sound like pH neutral. Am I just hearing it wrong or am I missing a particular ingredient that is not on the label.

Can I get more than one book out of a book cloth if I buy one of one color? Or is it only big enough for one book?
@ThatsMyBookshelf
@ThatsMyBookshelf 6 ай бұрын
Yes you can normally. It depends on where you buy them from, if you are in the US Hollanders normally I think you can get two books worth per cloth size they sell, and Bookcraft supply co who I use mainly sells by the half yard and yard, and if I buy a yard I think I’m getting 9 or 10 books per yard?

Does it need to be a specific model of Cricut?

If you want to do the design with the outline box around the cover you need one of the full size cricuts, not the cricut joy. But you can do it with the cheapest larger cricut like the explore air 2

Are you the original designer for penguin cloth bound? I watched a lovely video on penguin page and the designer talks about how she creates them i just wondered if that was you or if you just design and create the same covers

Goodness no, all credit for the beautiful penguin clothbound classic designs goes to the incredibly talented coralie bickford-smith! I am just in love with the style of them, own most of them, and since I know how to bind/rebind books decided it would be a fun project to give all other books in my library a makeover to sort of match my PCC collection. Basically I want my own beauty and the beast library, and this is how I’m going to try to achieve it 😊
