Part 13: The Spirits of Sacrifice and Militancy
“The father plays an important role in helping his son realize that suffering is a natural part of life and that he has to suffer to achieve what he wants.
To make your son understand suffering, do not hide the trials of your neighbors. Remind him that they are suffering now but one day it can be your turn or your son’s turn and that the important thing is to be ready to bear that suffering well in order to face Our Lord at our judgment.
“To be able to accept suffering is one of the most important sources of balance and peace and running from suffering is the cause of nervousness and affliction.
“The spirit of militancy complements the spirit of sacrifice. A boy should be willing to face bullies and enemies and fight back if necessary. A defeatist attitude does not belong to the Catholic spirit and boys should be formed with admiration for great saints and heroes with songs and stories of their great deeds and battles. The spirit of sacrifice and the fight will make a boy virile, strong, and virtuous - qualities so rare in these corrupted, effeminate days.”
