EDIT: All the Hemi 6s had a 3.68" stroke, not 3.67" as mentioned at 11:35

Very interesting. 61 year year old in Texas, retired mechanic and wished they sold them here. Thaks, and thank Uncle Tony for requesting this.

Back in 93 when I lived in Nebraska I had a 65 Dodge 1/5 ton 2wd with a 225 Cid slant 6 it was great for going to work and I hauled a big 4 cylinder Cat engine and it carried this 1 us ton mortor to be fixed.

Can those oil drip rails below the camshaft behind the timing chain gear with the two bolts be bought new? Cheers.

Wow! That is so different from a Slant-6. I LOVE the Slant-6. Your distributor location smacked me in the face right away! Oh, man, I wish we had these here in North America, maybe as an optional inline 6. It looks like a beautiful engine. Would you take a Canadian Valiant fan for a ride in your Aussie Hemi-6 Valiant? I'll fly to Australia to do it! Is that a lifter cover just behind the distributor? Yeah, you guys really had your own engine, it is very different from a Slant-6. Could I put one of those into a North American Valiant or Dart? That would be so beautiful at a car show here. You just mentioned a Carter BBD. Finally, you're speaking my language! Your crank is a lot smaller and lighter than a Slant-6, but still looks pretty solid. K, now I am just going to shut up and watch the rest of your video about this fascinating engine. Thank you for showing it to us. Lawrence Camera/Editor/Producer BrainDamageBBQ

Hey Lawrence. What probably will hurt, is that this engine design was intended as a big brother to the slant 6 in the US. A later decision was made to offer the slant in 2 sizes, negating the need for this engine. 90%+ of the work was done when it was shelved, and Chrysler Australia picked it up and finished development. It's a little bit long to be a direct fit in your A body, but remove the fan and spacer, pop an electric fan in front of the radiator, you'll have the space. That's how it's done down here, to swap into earlier models.

@@TAVOAu I think there was 3 versions of the slant 6 actually, not counting the aluminum version. Have an old self propelled swather at my grand parents farm with a slant 6 that looks different than the usual 225's and has a tag on it that says HB225.

@@NVMDSTEvil Yes, the 170, 198 and 225. The 225 saw the entirety of the slant 6 life, while the 198 came along later, to replace the 170 at some stage, not quite sure exactly when. Australian vehicles only got the 225.

Curious that you chose to remove the valve lifters up instead of down where you had removed the camshaft. Is there a reason you couldn't / didn't go the down direction? Thanks for the video!

I think you're right there! We've just always pulled them before the cam, matter of habit, and it just didn't occur to me, there was now an opening below 🤪🙃

Engineers put more thought into the 6 cylinder in austrailia it seems. Potentially a real ripper.

It had its minor shortcomings. We can't take all the credit, the engine was initially designed and engineered in the USA, to use alongside the 170 slant 6. Then economics dictated that they just enlarge the slant to 225 for the bigger cars, and this one was shelved.

I see some similarities with the small block Chrysler, possibilities of using 318 pistons or rods, which makes me curious about a 4” stroker crank.

As a whole, it is really a mish mash of the better points of many other engines. All it needed and didn't get, was a cross flow design. The 265 version received the 3.91" bore, same as the 318.
@mpetersen6

@@TAVOAu I take it these did have the same bore spread the Slant. If so how much?

I do not know about the Valiants you got in Australia, but I am guessing you had the K-member which is the best way to swap a V8 into a Slant-6 car. Is it a V8 K-member or a Slant-6 K-member or something else entirely specific to the Hemi 6? Would an Australian right-hand-drive K-member bolt into a North American left-hand-drive A-body? I'm blown away by the number of main bearings in that engine. A Slant-6 has to have a ridiculous crank because it is not as well supported as in your Hemi 6. It's also not a cross-flow head which surprises me. But I have seen videos of those Hemi 6 engines running, and I can see the performance potential. Very, very cool. Thank you for showing us. Hi Lawrence. yes, this engine uses its own specific K member, but that wouldn't work well in your car, as our steering components are mounted to the chassis frame rail. Best bet, if you were ever to do this conversion, would be to source a K member with the engine, and cut the mounting pads from it, and weld them to your LHD K member. I have another video up showing the differences LHD vs RHD. Thanks for your viewing and comments.

I'm an old fart. I do have a pneumatic rattle gun for big, tight stuff, and have only recently bought an electric 3/8 ratchet, to work on a Honda with limited space. I've just always done everything by hand, couldn't really justify the cost of powered tools.

Lifters can be re ground on the base. It requires a special machine, grind them at about a 3ft radius.
