Your assertion of them being "primitives" is outdated and ignorant. They settled into cities and villages, cultivated crops and kept/tended livestock. They had complex constructions, established clear lines of leadership, had art and music and language. The only place the Celts fell short was in written language, focusing instead on oral tradition.

What are you talking about, the Celts still exist, or are we not going to consider the Irish, Welsh, Scottish, Manx, and Bretons as Celtic peoples. Your narrow definition of civilization seems to be derived from classical historical and sociological views that are no longer widely accepted. A Civilization is a complex form of social organisation and development, the criteria of which the Celtic peoples of both the ancient and modern worlds meet. The ancient Celts may not have had a written language, but they did use symbols to convey certain ideas. Written language is a sign of an advanced form of civilization but it is not THE determining factor for whether a people or society can be considered as such. Furthermore your assertion that we wouldn't have known about them is entirely incorrect as the ancient Celts even going back before the Romans and Greeks left behind structures, art, tools, weapons, and so on. They were not using sticks and stones, they were excellent metal workers and crafted structures that still stand today go take a look at Stonehenge and other standing stones as well as burial mounds.
