I have a doubt if the compressor operating point would shift to E in case of surge. Because if it can automatically reach the -ve slope it reaches the stable area and the operation would continue based on system resistance . I feel the cycle of surge would be ABCD-DCBA, not to E

Characteristic curve and performance curve is important for GATE also. Surging may not be important. But part 1 was important and next 2 videos which will be uploaded are important.

Sir ekk doubt tha Jab unstable condition me flow suddenly increases mass flow rate from B to E, then the pressure of reservoir now increases and (delta p) required now again increases. So the mass flow rate will have to decrease in order to reach an increased pressure at reservoir. But now as the mass flow rate is decreased, now the flow the pressure of reservoir will decrease and pressure required decrease of compressor so the mass flow rate now increases and keep the system in stable condition . So sir even after we started with an unstable condition we further reached a stable condition. So sir am I wrong? And if I am wrong please correct me

hi Sandeep, if the compressor has stable operation although it shifts to point 2 or 3 from 1, why will it not have a stable operation once it reaches point E? What is the criteria for a point to be like point E on characteristic curve so that although it is in stable operation zone but it does not behave like point 1?

@arghyadhar662 Sir i think previous case it was kind of step chnage while for state E was reached instantaneously like and the flow is so high enough that the pressure requirement for compressor is again achieved to point A and still is not enough so backflow occurs from downstream to compressor and again reaches to unstable operation

As far as i know.. PSV is pressure safety valve . it suddenly opens after reaching a certain pressure setpoint. TSV is temperature safety valve . it opens suddenly after reaching a certain temperature. ( both psv and tsv open due to pressure build up but psv is rated for certain pressure .. And tsv is rated such that the valve opens if system reaches pressure corresponding to setpoint temperature) PRV is pressure relief valve.. It gradually opens with increase in pressure and closes gradually with decrease in pressure..

Surge is happening due to centrifugal action only so PD compressor will not face surge. NRV may protect back flow but what about piping between NRV and Compressor discharge (cooler in between), hence anti surge valve is provided between compressor cooler and NRV to transfer backflow towards suction drum of compressor.

Isothermal process is very difficult to achieve. Adiabatic process are less efficient. More work required for same compression. In reality compression happened in between these two extreme, called polytropic process.

Hi Sandeep, you tried hard to explain, well effort. I found, you made it complicated probably because of pressure to yourself prove best than other youtube videos, and a professor from IIT (mentioning his name was unethical, and non-professional). It could be more easy which can leave the impression in mind instead of getting confuse because of mentioning N number of times pressure low, pressure high. First of all, Let me clear you that I have great respect for Prof. S.K.Som for his knowledge and way of teaching. You might be very new on this channel that’s why you don’t know this. I have mentioned and recommended in many videos about Prof. S.K.Som lecture. I myself have learned Thermodynamics from his lecture only. My subscribers know these fact. In this video also I have said He is very learned professor. Only thing is that I liked the explanation of surging in the book of Centrifugal compressor more than any other source. So I explained in that way only. If you find other explanation are easy. Then it is perfectly OK. After all concept should be clarified. Source does not matter. There is no pressure to prove best. I am in learning phase, I can’t be best. And at least no comparison from Prof. s.k.som. He is like Guru. Sorry for your miscommunication and wrong interpretation.
