Alec Laird was born in his granny's bed at Liddel Farm, The Orkney Islands on the 17th of June 1942.
After a brief stint working on a harbour tug, he joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16. He still works at sea on board an ERRV (Emergency Response & Rescue Vessel) in the North Sea..........This is his story in his own words.....

Wow, all 3 parts are amazing. Not many folks on this earth have experienced diving the way he had. Incredible nerves in a unforgiving environment. Such a different world in the sea. Thanks for the documentary of this man.

@@malcolm9650 Sounds like fun. I used to be in the sea scouts at Portsmouth. We also got to do such things. Mind you, back then, anyone could just walk into Portsmouth Dockyard and ask to be shown round a RN ship.

What an amazing life you’ve had on (and in) the sea! Great story! This has been such an amazing channel giving us land-lubbers a great glimpse into life onboard a ship of this kind in the wickedest, wildest seas in the world . Who will run your channel now if you’re retired? And just one more question: do you guys ever actually do any fishing (for food) when the sea is relatively calm or is this activity against company policy?

I haven’t retired just yet. The company don’t want me filming any more ☹️
