Joe, I haven't chimed in for a while with all the insanity around us now...hope you are keeping your sanity through all this. Your presentations are like a oasis in the desert for a musician like me. I am so grateful you captured this moment with all these heros. This is a national treasure and without you most of these things would never have happened and would be lost to the ages. The entire interview is great but my favorite part (other than Hal's insane sense of humor-of course) is the way Jim stole everyone's thunder with that really inspiring story at the end. The most fun part of this is watching Chad Smith. While a pretty decent drummer with the Chili Peppers, you can tell he is quite aware he is in the midst of drum legends. He almost is a stand in for the rest of us, watching and listening in awe of all that is being said!

Thanks Joe. I could gobble this stuff up all day. I'm sure Hal Blaine (& others) had a real appreciation for what u & the HOF do showcasing so many unsung legends. These guys must not be forgotten.

Thank you for sharing. RIP Hal Blaine & Earl Palmer. I read somewhere that Hal Blaine was the most recorded musician ever. There definitely were some of the best musicians in the wrecking crew.

Back in 64" .. when I was 15 I was practicing and playing along with records .. working out with an Earl Palmer album ... it was thrilling when I finally got the hang of "One Mint Julep"! ..( got the hang,but not his amazing breaks:-) Look up One mint julep (Drumsville album) some tough licks in there even by today's standards ! :-) ... I have to admit I got a little misty here, seeing and hearing this humble man .. man oh man the great Earl Palmer! thank you for this! ..

Regarding Earl Palmer, who is considered the inventor of the word "funky" and one of the inventors of (backbeat) Rock n Roll drumming with Fats Domino, Little Richard and many others, Wiki writes: "When asked by Max Weinberg what more of the recording sessions he'd played on Palmer replied, "Don't ask me which ones I played on. I should have done like Hal [Blaine]. Hal used to get gold records for all the things he played on. I never did that, you know. I would like to have a room with all those things in them. It would have been nice-show my grandchildren when they grow up so they don't say, 'Oh shut up old man and sit down.' I could just say, 'Look. I don't have to tell you nothing. There it is."

It’s fantastic to have these memories and stories recorded....thanks to all. It would have been good to hear a bit more from Jim about his time with John Hiatt, Little Village and others. Maybe one day Joe will persuade him to tell us a bit more.

It's no coincidence that my favorite track "Any World" on Steely Dan's 1975 album "Katy Lied" was the one track on the album where Hal Blaine played the drums. He made the outro to that song the most exhilarating finish to any Steely Dan recording.

Once again, these get together sessions are almost magic. These were the real guys who were there. I’m glad they touched on drum machines. Back in the early 80’s Goodman Music put on a mini Namm show (no affiliation) “in LA. Roger Linn introduced the Linn Drum, Featured on George Bensons hit, “Turn Your love Around” After the Demo and speech by Roger Linn, every drummer in walked out of the room in total disbelief.

How funny! "Setting up in front of the orchestra" haha. Ive had my own, lets say, choice experiences with violin players at scoring sessions treating me with contempt. Very enjoyable Joe, thanks.

This is pure gold, could Paul Williams ( Chairman of ASCAP) help you animate some of these and have the guys tell their stories, such as Blaine having a drum roadie ahead of him w keys to all the studios.... Who would pay for these culled animation gems? Why the record companies of course to replay their past glory and promote " the good ol days" and spur more record sales? Or am i nuts? This is wayyyy too good for KZfaq, needs a mini series or cd compilation. Go for it Mr Chambers, im sure advertisers would line up to help you find a way to broadcast these amazing stories and legends 🙏

Hal could tell a good story

It’s just great hearing these guys talk about the early parts of their careers. Regarding the political correction end of things. Back then it was a term of endearment, a way to show your friendship or love for that person by saying something that other people would consider offensive. I found it was more of an east coast thing. Great musicians, great people and also great relationships that produced so much great music. 👍👍👍

$1,000 a day back in the late 60’s is like $7,600 today!! Very sad that Hal Blaine had to part with so much of his money due to divorces. I know his first wife passed away but those two additional marriages cost him dearly.
