Bring back the marbles.
@farrier27083 жыл бұрын
Originally, Mersianna, I didn't trust Greece to have the will nor the technology to care for the marbles, as carefully as British Museum could. Since then, I have visited the Acropolis and the Museum. I have seen first hand the tremendous effort, care and above all, expertise that is being funded to restore and protect the site. That visit has gone a long, long way to altering my opinion. Don't get me wrong. I still feel very possessive of the marbles and would hate to have them moved from the BM. However, I did think that, on balance, it would have been better to see them in their proper place.
@Poseidonios_Bellerophon3 жыл бұрын
@@farrier2708 You know what we had enought with your excuses about our marbles. It is OURS our ancestors build those magnificent temples. You don't have the right to speak for them.

@@Poseidonios_Bellerophon At the time Elgin removed the marbles, the British Museum was the safest place for them. If you actually read my comment, you would have understood ; from what I have seen ; your new museum in Athens, is an excellent institution. Although I would be sad if they were returned, I think, on balance, that Athens is probably the right place for them. I am not speaking for for your ancestors. I am merely expressing my own personal opinion. Which I have every right to do. I also think that an aggressive response to any argument is counter productive. Especially when the opinion being expressed is siding with you.

The skills are still here using different methods of course. Considering the artists working on the restoration of the temple the craftsmanship still exists. What is long lost are the social bonds and education of that society, that lead to the creation of such delicate and balanced works.

@pan0sgr8565 жыл бұрын
Apparently the one aspect of the miracle called the Parthenon is the building itself which even in modern times terms is an astounding and unsurpassed architectural marvel. But what makes it even more mind-blowing is how they manage to conceive it and execute it the 5th century BC, with that technology and without the mass information available today. I would also be interested to see the Nashville copy but a full restoration/re-build of the Parthenon would tag a Disneyland aesthetic to the whole site. I can reassure you that the moment you go through the Propulaea complex and you have a first view of the Parthenon under the Attica sky, it is a truly breathtaking experience that fills you with awe.
