I'm already sold on the plugin option, particle-larly (see what I did there?) for using deflectors on objects I import into After Effects; won't be for at least few months down the line, but it'll be worth it! Thank you for the video tutorials, which will serve as great reference materials when I do get my creative juices flowing.

That's great. Keep practicing with the PI standalone and you'll have a huge head start when you start working with the plugin. Plus you'll be creating some cool stuff in the meantime!

Awesome! Is there a way to get the effect of rain droplets moving down a pane of glass?

You could do it with Particle Illusion, low velocities and an area grid. But I think there is a better and probably more realistic way using Continuum with BCC Noise Map and BCC Displacement Map. Its more involved than I can describe in a KZfaq comment. I will put it on our tutorials to do list. Great idea.

having problem to draw the line at the beginning because can't stop drawing the lines, please help me out

Hit the Escape key and it will stop adding points.

Hang on, how are you controlling the line? 1:42 I thought this was a beginners' tutorial? (3 years out of date) totally useless

We're aware that some of the info is now out of date and are working on getting it all updated. In the meantime, if you want to use a line, you can select the Line type emitter and just keep clicking until you're finished. Then hit the escape key. Alt-click will still add a point anywhere along the line for you. Hope that helps.
