Baba Abdul Rehman lives in a village called Tehi Javind Singh in district Pakpattan, Punjab, Pakistan. Azmat, Chak Datar Singh (Chak 3 EB), Kalyana, Malyana and Opana are neighbouring villages of Tehi.
Before partition 1947, his family lived in Panjawa, a village in Muktsar district.
Baba Abdul Rehman recalls the prepartition days in Panjawa. Muslims and nonmuslims live in harmony, love and peace. They share pains and joys of life. They participate in marriages and funeral prayers of each other.
Badal, a village is situated few miles from Panjawa. The renowned politician and ex-chief minister of Punjab, Sardar Parkash Singh Badal hails from Badal village. His paternal grandfather Sardar Jay Singh Badal and Abdul Rehman's grandfather Mahni Khan had exchanged their turbans ( a Punjabi tradition to be brothers).
On Eid day, in 1947, Panjawa is attacked. Muslims escape leaving everything behind. Even family members are scattered in mayhem of sudden attack. Hundreds of people are killed by in that murderous onslaught. Baba Rehman's family members run and reach in house of Sardar Atma Singh, another pagwatt brother of the family in Wanwala village adjacent to Panjawa. Sardar Atma Singh protects them all. He makes sure they reach the caravan safely.
Words cannot express the grief of the loss that is faced by Baba Abdul Rehman's family along with others.
