A possibly abandoned polar bear cub was reported to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by ConocoPhillips staff after it was spotted from their drilling site.
After more than 24 hours of ground and aerial observation it was determined the cub had indeed been abandoned by its mother and was captured and brought to the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage for feeding and veterinary care.
The blue-green marking on the cub's face is a dye used for identification and eventually wears off.
Once she's old enough and strong enough to move, she will be relocated to a zoo that has the appropriate facilities to maintain her health and to provide public education and study opportunities.
