Partridge and Red Variation - Fly Tying Step By Step

A fun little soft hackle pattern. I have played a little bit with soft hackles on the rivers and they are always a lot of fun. They can definitely be productive and I quite enjoy swinging them through riffles or during a hatch. I haven't tied them in this red color before but have been given some advise that red is a go to colour in an area I am going to fish soon. Only one to find out for sure though so have whipped a few up and thought I would share. This, as with many patterns, can easily be adjusted to a whole range of colors depending on what you are needing.

I fish black body spider flies x two or as a single fly below a 2.5 bead head fly and can confirm trout love them as they swing across the current. Thanks for clearly showing the thread tag end being used as the wrap.

Pretty tie. Being from the Ribble Valley (NW England) I grew up on spider patterns, and Weetabix (with an "a"!). Always used the feather and then the colour when naming them (snipe and purple, partridge and orange, woodcock and red, and the exception: waterhen bloa (!) - ‘Bloa’ refers to the color of the fly’s hackle. The word derives from the Scottish term “blae”, which is a dark, leaden, slate-gray color.

Cheers for the info mate. Yeah I'm not sure why but it's just stuck in my head the wrong way round it would seem. Should've double checked I guess.
