@@Karlcoupe correct! In the US a 5.5 smooth wall/twin wall flexible liner accepts the same BTU’s and flow rate as a 6” single wall corrugated flexible liner. I should’ve made that clear, because I don’t know the UK codes for that. Thank you for clearing it up.

Hello. Good question. You will usually be able to hear the wind howling down the chimney or a constant breeze is felt in the fireplace. Geographical conditions, like being in a valley are common causes of a downdraught. If you are unsure and want to be safe, there is no harm in buying an anti downdraught cowl just to be sure.

You put a liner only if u have a standard brick chimney. But yeah I never understood why they use those flexible liners, their surface is not smooth. I opted for a regular hard steel liner(one layer) and I put rockwool between the liner and the old chimney.

Fit the adapter to the end of the flue pipe. Feed the end through the register plate hole, don't secure the register plate, fit enamel pipe then slide your fire in underneath and as you haven't secured the plate yet you will have some play to push the whole lot up the chimney. Once the fire is in place secure the register plate.

@@stumitch7109 Ok, thanks. The trouble with that is that I will have to pour the vermiculite down the chimney (around the liner) after the stove is installed completely, but that's ok.

What sort of cowl would you use for a bishop chimney pot?

316 is approved for smokeless fuel, however It is the industry consensus that if you are mainly burning smokeless coal, you are best to go with a 904 grade liner as combining factors can cause the lower grade to corrode quicker. If your primary fuel is wood, then the 316 will be just fine. The choice is yours though, as both grades are approved. I hope this helps. Kind regards.

Hello, If you are getting someone in they will need to be Hetas or Oftec approved - The prices will vary massively across the country and it will depend on exactly what work is required and how easy the roof is to access. I would suggest visiting www.hetas.co.uk and typing in your postcode. This will then display all qualified fitters near you. You can then call around to get an idea of cost in your area. If buying online it could be best to opt for a " man in a van " type of installer. You and a friend can fit the liner and stove yourself, there are a number of good videos online to help. All you will need to do is ensure it is installed to building regs and signed off by the council. I hope this helps. Kind regards.

A stove will often have a flue collar size for a reason. Usually a small stove will have a 5 inch and a larger unit 6 inch. The larger stove will be producing more smoke, so will need a larger outlet. If that outlet size is reduced down it could cause the stove to spill smoke back into the room and also potentially cause the chimney to tar up “ cork “ . I hope this helps. Kind regards

@@Karlcoupe thank you so much for your kind response, i have a fireplace insert with 200mm collar but builder made a horrinble chimney line with brick that cant fit it inside.. thats why i was thinking to reduce it but seems like it will bring more problem..
