You're missing the opening g-note on the 6th string then sliding from the first fret to the second fret on the 5th string,.....followed by the open D-string note.

If you are using a PC they are listed during the song in the left corner, other than that, I'm afraid that's all I have. The chords are G, C, F and D. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Rivarokband I understand. In my experience, There is nothing better than playing a couple of covers during an origional show at key moments to keep the crowd involved. There is always time in a 90 minute session set to throw in a little John Mellencamp. Guaranteed, the crowd will apprecaite it. Good luck

good job Marty. Something I don't understand is that you and everyone else teaching this song uses the same chords you do. When I watch John Couger live He's playing a "D" chord.Do you know why, or am I missing something, I consider myself an advance beginner. Thanks for all the songs. Tommy

I hate to say because i Love john Mellencamp, but I have watched his vids and while he is a great song writer, playing guitar is not his strong suit. 2 things happened, either he was playing the wrong chords which is doubtful as even he wouldn't do that through the whole song or they tuned his guitar down a step or two so he could play the 3 chords he knows in the right keys. I am not trying to diss him, I just know he struggles with playing guitar

myplcrew Hi there, While I am not big on teaching strum patterns as I like a new player to discover them and make a song thier own, I will answer your request, the way I play it is:u d u d u d d d u d, start out in G and on the 5th d switch to C and then back to G on the 6th d, I hope this helps, thanx for tuning in and good luck

You're teaching a beginner song to advanced students...where's the breakdown? For a beginner at least for the first time, you're running through it like I'm suppose to know what order the chords are in. It would be nice to hear you say the chords as you are playing them. The C and F chords have similar positioning from my perspective, it's difficult and frustrating for a beginner to have to figure that out. Then, in the middle of the song, you do some kind of slide down the neck without explaining why or what. My suggestion for a tutorial would be to explain the chords, the order of the chords, play them slowly and then finally in real time.

Keep playing my friend and it will begin to come clear. I do my vids that way to encourage you to practice. If you figure it out on your own a little, it will stick with you longer, OR maybe my vids are not for you. There are tonnes of great teachers out there. I'm sure you can find one to suit your ability. thanx for tuning in anyway and good luck to you

Thomas, Marty is exactly right. If you don't have enough incentive to look these up, even as a beginner, you will never continue on with guitar. It's easy to look up these chords anywhere online and get the correct way to finger them. You will then need to practice them for a while separately to get them down correctly before even trying to play the song. This is all a part of learning my friend. Good luck.
