Stromboli at night is truly awesome. You can see the magma ejections every 20 mins or so. The roar is guttural. Magic.

That's amazing! It hadn't quite gone dark when we were passing, but we heard a few rumbles. So humbling to see!

Dolphins are awesome at night, you usually get a wosh of water different to wave noise, but the real joy is seeing them playing underwater and all the bioluminescence disturbance. Have fun.

Nice chilled sail guys. Back in the day when there was no AIS we used to use a hand bearing compass to take a bearing on the bow of a ship. Do this every 5 mins or so and you will see the bearing getting greater or smaller and you can work out if you are clearing ahead or astern of the other vessel. If the bearing stays the same you are on a collision course so one of you needs to alter course. I still use this method as it is quick and easy to do. Cheers guys, it’s my birthday in 22 mins, 59 years young, so I’m off to my boat in the morning to chill rand go for a sail. Stays safe. Andy UK

Hey Andy, yeah that's a good point. I guess it's that thing of getting too reliant on the tech and forgetting the simpler ways! Hope you had a great birthday and a fun sail 😁 All our best, Jade and brynn

Hand bearing compass on a ship.......if the reading does not change, its a collision course! They do not always respond to radio anyway, had to take more than a few drastic last moment maneuverers to avoid being run down.

Nice silent passage...but it does go like this. Like Brady from delos once said, you get bored of boredom. There must be ideal stuff to do on quiet passages like recap moments the life you've lived till you can eventually remember and recall every event of your life, from the cradle to now. Every place you lived at every school you attended. Every teacher and friend you had...etc. This way you recycle and therefore renew your life, as your baggage fades, since baggage are forgotten memories. This, as the greatest challenge can be worked on in all the spare time we have, and ' boring' time we have. We have no time to waste

Last time went thro the straights I was PO cruise ship Aurora. Ahead waa German navy ship as we passed them out Capt came on the tannoy and told us all about the German ship. Then Rule Britannia was played loudly on the PA system as we passed them.

Lovely episode. Great to see you sailing past Stromboli. Great light and you're both quite relaxed as you nip through a pretty treacherous channel. You're Now officially Ionian. Buona Fortuna Auguri

Love watching you're adventures 💙 Other than the obvious passport, what kind of documentation do ya'll have to provide to travel the Mediterranean? Boat registration? Insurance?? Have you ever been asked for a VHF radio licence???
@ChasingCurrents
@ChasingCurrents Жыл бұрын
Aw thanks so much 😁 so the only things we've ever needed to show is in Marinas, and that's boat insurance, small ships register and passports. Never been asked for VHF or sailing qualifications as of yet! 😄

@@ChasingCurrents Thanks for the reply, muchly appreciated. Didn't think I'd need to pay for the VHF licence... its kinda like the TV licence and I've never paid for that lol. Take care and God bless 💙 💜

Hate to say it but you guys need a walloping. Tidy your boat up, stop chickening out and timing zero knot winds or really low winds. Your engine isn't made for your full passages. Suck it up and go slow if no wind or little breeze.
@ChasingCurrents
@ChasingCurrents Жыл бұрын
Tidy what up? You do know we've been living full time on a 28ft boat right? 😅 it's easier said than done when you have no time on your Schengen Visas since Brexit. We unfortunately dont have the luxury of waiting for ideal sailing and go when we can. That's why some days we have too much wind some days we have none, its just the way it is in the Med as many people will say. And also as we've said many times, the forecasts are often completely opposite in the Med. A forecast of 15-20 knots can turn out as zero knots and visa versa.
