Awesome video! Do you have dimensions for your build? I love the layout. Knowing the dimensions of the bed and units would be super helpful 🙏🏻😊👌🏻

I have a Bougie RV ice chest size, fridge or freezer. I think I paid less than $200? Pulls a little less than 50 watts. I got it for my little camper for more freezer space so I don't have to buy ice all the time. Thing works great both as bonus house freezer in and when I am on the road. My 300 watt power bank keeps it running for at least 7 hours when I am pulling down the road. It also runs on DC. About the size of a medium ice chest. If you can find a place for an ice chest and get power to it. You have a fridge or a freezer. I keep it on 0, but I t can be set higher for a fridge. Safe travels and enjoyed your video!

look into diplomatic passports. you can get a passport from the forgien office not HM passports office and pretend you dont have a birth cert.. However you might need to know what happens when you are needed to evacuate an area. Or have dual nationality ...and 2 passports

I solo cruised a Yankee Dolphin 24 with a Navik self steering vane, from Mission Bay CA to the Caribbean Via the Panama Canal. Sailed it on a run in heavy weather of 55 kts wind and 20-25 ft breaking waves. 12 hours under just a storm jib. Wasn't a good time but it handled it. It was a great boat and capable of circumnavigating the world.

My 1974 Swanson 30 cost myself and mate $32K (Aud) which considering the boat’s considerable ocean racing inc 6 S2Hs and ocean and coastal cruising history, let alone that its two previous owners had spent the combined sum of approx $30K in upgrading it was kind of a bargain. And yes sure it doesn’t have a shower, hot water, water maker, fridge or even an oven, it did come with a near new volvo penta 30 hp motor, new folding prop, new harken 40 primary winches, new B&G wind instrument, new furler, new sails, sheets, and quite a lot of refurbishment both on deck and down below. Yes there is work to be done, some more upgrades to be done to it but we are happy and race it every week. So yes a small boat has its advantages for sure.

You find a lot of boat yards have boats who owners are behind with their fees or have abandoned their boats so another way of getting a cheap boat as boat yards just want to get their cost back.

Nothing shocking. The Brexit and Bureaucracy stuff is also not a surprise. Shocks me how many sailors and expats voted for it. We find the wind to be predictable. Stay safe.

Very interesting video for someone planning to sail to Portugal in June from NI. I plan to take the boat out of the water in Nazare and sail her from October March. My main concern are Orcas. I may decide to go to Madeira and Canary Islands instead. I have absolutely no interest in crowded anchorages, marinas and party boats. Also interesting what you said about end. Thankfully the 90 day bureaucracy will not apply because being Northern Irish we can apply for Irish EU passports. Thank you. Useful insight. ⛵️

What scares me about buying a boat is the cost of the unknowns. I want a seaworthy boat even though I will likely never cross an ocean. I find old boats are well made but have refit needs because they are 30, 40 or more years old. How do I know if the chain plates need work, or the thru hulls? The engine could be a major expense. So my $5000-10,000 boat could need a $25,000 refit. How can I find out the depth of potential expenses before I fork over my $$$ ?

Safer if the lifeboat goes topside in the lazarette. If you turn turtle you would have some diving to do as is.

Once again I think you handled this situation very well. It’s all about gaining experience and accepting the financial hits when they come. Also there are so many beginners at sailing, just like us, so we always have to be aware of the lack of experience of others. A great preparation video for me sailing to The Algarve from Ireland in June. ⛵️

As someone who is planning a voyage from Ireland to the Algarve in June this was a timely warning. £1,500 for rescue is way outside my budget. I thought you handled the situation really well. ⛵️

Generally, I feel that all modern navigation systems have user interfaces that are appalling. They seem to be made by programmers, for programmers and not for boaters at all. When I am in a boat I want to be in a boat, I do NOT want to be a system administrator who just happens to be on the water. The complexity of modern systems are getting in the way of what they are supposed to be there for: Simplifying your boating experience.

Your carbon monoxide alarm is far too low down. CO is lighter than air. The alarm should be 15cm from the headlining of the saloon. If you leave it where it is and are unlucky enough to have a CO problem you will be unconscious before it goes off!
