I mean ventilation in terms of the steam engine crews sake. Vents allow air to flow through the tunnel. I don't know how long this tunnel is but if there is no air flowing through the tunnel at all the steam engines crew wouldn't be able to breathe. So electrified now I think most tunnels are still built with some form of air flow going through them

I also think I must have an old ventilation system, but I don't know if it has been kept efficient, because the railway line was inaugurated in 1894. I think the tunnel in the video is the one called "Cremolino" 3,408 meters long (there is one even longer on that section: the Turchino tunnel over 6600 meters long). So I think the ventilations on that section are working at least in part or would not allow any historical reenactment with coal locomotives if there was danger.

Јако леп видео снимак!Овако нешто,јако слично,некад давно,постојало је и у Србији. У Овчар Бањи,између Ужица и Чачка. Одмах код тунела пружни прелаз,па челични мост. С том разликом што је у Овчар бањи била пруга узаног колосека (760 мм),и није била електрификована. Од свега тога,данас постоје само тужни остаци. Поздрав из Новог Сада.

(wiki/Disastro_di_Balvano#Le_cause) CITATION: "As demonstrated by the report carried out by the commission of inquiry into the tragedy, the alleged poor quality of the coal supplied by the Allied Military Command, a thesis circulated with great insistence over the decades, is without foundation. Responsibilities The bodies of the victims at the Balvano station are loaded onto trucks The commission did not prosecute those responsible, despite the evidence of multiple and very serious responsibilities. The political will and directives of the Allies were decisive in this regard. Thus the catastrophe at the time was mainly attributed to [4]: «A combination of material causes, such as dense fog, atmospheric haze, complete lack of wind, which did not maintain the natural ventilation of the tunnel, damp rails, etc., causes which unfortunately all occurred together and in rapid succession. The train stopped due to the fact that it slipped on the rails and the crew of the cars had been overwhelmed by the poisoning produced by the gas, before they could take action to lead the train out of the tunnel. Due to the presence of the extraordinarily poisonous carbonic acid, the poisoning of illegal passengers was produced. The action of this gas is so rapid, that the tragedy occurred before any outside help could be brought. "
