I hope you found this video helpful on how to make yourself stand out in the college application process. Believe it or not, the coronavirus crisis is actually the perfect time to begin your passion project. Because when everyone else is bored and chilling at home, you can be doing something productive, interesting, and impactful. I also go more in-depth in this video on my passion projects--my economics book and my international organization. I think I touch less on the specifics of starting an international organization, so I can talk more about that in a future video if requested. Great advice ! How do you advise people not to only create passion projects/organizations solely for college apps. I’ve seen too many projects and organizations that were great but when the student got into college, they completely drop/abandon it.

I’m hoping to get into Yale for history, and have been painting snapshots of both national and international events, and I was wondering if that could be considered as a passion project? I don’t know if it’s detailed enough to be considered as one, or know if it really aligns with my intended major. Any tips or suggestions to help define my project? Yes, that sounds like a wonderful passion project!! The "enough" factor comes down to impact, so try to expand your project's reach to as many people from as many countries as possible!! I think it does align well with a history/humanities major. Perhaps you can include historical national and international events as well, or draw parallels between current events and historical events. This is so helpful! Any recommendations for starting an independent project from home? Due to the coronavirus I probably can’t carry out some of the passion projects I wanted to start during the summer (free tutoring program for refugees/kids in low-income areas; free science camp for kids in low-income areas;etc). Now I’m pretty stressed since I have to apply in the fall and probably can’t start these :/

Yeah that's a tough situation!! With the coronavirus, you will have to limit your ideas to things that can be done virtually. You could try starting programs online and advertising them through digital means. I see that your focus audience is low-income students, so that might be tough given that they may not have access to the internet. But maybe you can start writing your plan of action, or start playing with some different ideas for a passion project.

Just do whatever you feel like matters to you in the moment! Tbh I don't even know if I'm going to go into econ 10 years from now... I think as long as you pursue what you're curious or feel strongly about in the moment, you will do something great!

Hi Iris, I really love your videos! Do you recommend using canva for doing the cover page only or writing the whole book. Do you think Google Docs is a good platform for writing a book? If I use google docs to write my book, how am I supposed to get it in a "book" form? And also I still can't decide on what type of book I should write, how can I find a good topic? I used Canva for the whole book -- i downloaded it as a PDF and plugged it into Amazon PDF which aligned every page of the PDF into a page of the book. Write about something you're interested in or have experience in. This can be anything (and I think you'll know what you like best)!

I just started my passion project in a way but I'm already in my summer of junior year to senior year but I'm struggling to figure out how to make it a big project. Also, I did you do the class with Julie on Passion Projects, I am currently on the waitlist. I was wondering if maybe u could provide some guidance on how to make my passion project big enough? I’m really interested in majoring in Political Science at Standard. I also am SUPER into literature and books (hints my channel 😂) but I don’t think I’ll be minoring in English. I’m quite sure I’ll be minoring in psychology? Do you think a fiction novel with themes of criminal and justice and mental health would count as a passion project worthy of putting on my application?

OMG I'm in the same situation!! I can't believe I finally found someone who's stuck in the same situation as me. I asked my school to initiate clubs or hold international competitions and the adminstration told me that there is no time for all that, and that students should concentrate on their education more than extracurriculars and all of that.

Ok, so I want to go to Stanford and major in political science. I’m in the process of creating two passion projects. They’re both websites, one of which focuses on educating teens on politics and current day events. The other one gives college and scholarship information to students in low-income areas who don't receive support. The reasoning for starting these websites all connect back to personal experiences. Are these projects strong enough to help me get into Stanford? Or do I need to do more?

I'm Ethan, I'm planning to start a club at my school focusing on spreading awareness of the importance of our organ health through research. Like how this pandemic can affect our organs like our kidneys and more. I also am planning to do this event where my group and I collect food nutrition labels in our community and research what's good and what's bad for our organs and how we can change that for the better. (e.g cutting down portions of certain brands), I'm passionate about the sciences and planning on going into medicine in the future. I also really like graphic design, so I was just wondering if there are any ideas for my idea to stand out more? Or do you have anymore ideas, it would really be a big help

I love graphic design as well, and I’d recommend you using those skills to make everything a lot more appealing to your audience. There’s a certain design style that has been blowing up on Instagram (I presume that’s where you’ll be showcasing your project) which you could try out and take inspiration from to play the algorithm and attract new people to your page :) hope I helped!

I mainly looking into things like the neuroscience of imagination and emotion and how things like how sugar affects our brain, but don't you think all those topics are too basic? :( idk. also how do i find reliable and credible neuroscience sources?

@@adeola1919 “neuroscience” is very broad. think in the context of what you want to do with your degree in neuroscience. colleges love to hear that the acceptance they give you into their institution will lead to something “big” for them. do you want to be a professor of neuroscience? go towards maybe a youth startup or educational forums for the dangers of certain vapes/drugs on the brain. is it neurosurgery? try to get some research under your belt and email different local professors, even just having an idea and presenting it to them is a good start. i think when going outside of the box it’s all about helping people or coming up with something monumental. the latter is kinda hard so try to maybe focus on how you can give people access to resources, educate people, maybe start community forums. just anything on a large scale that you believe could use some “fixing” in your community

How were you eligible to participate in the National Economics Challenge because it says “Students who have taken or are taking economics courses for college credit from a post secondary instructor are not eligible to compete”, weren’t you in college Econ classes ? I’m asking because I’m taking an Econ class at Harvard and I want to do NEC but I’m afraid I’m not eligible ? Is it possible I’m interpreting the rules wrong ?

Hey!! I think you should get a teacher/professor (someone with more credential) to edit your book. That’s what I did. I wouldn’t recommend getting peers with a similar knowledge base to look it over. Hope this helps!

美国招生官希望学生追求自己的兴趣爱好，所以选择art的AP课是没有问题的。不过你还是要争取一个比较rigorous的course load，因为art 不是最有难度的课。

what about getting a group of fellow actors and going to a childrens hospital to entertain them, or teaching drama at schools? maybe to expose students to new things, and help them find passions, feel less anxious ect
