+christopher burne In terms of numbers, I would agree. However, I feel that the English don't tend to sing unless they're winning, at least in football. Whereas the Irish national mentality seems to be better adapted to adversity, and therefore the fans seem to sing regardless. Just my opinion, peace.

Irish fans are mostly that as in being fans of ireland rather than being rugby fans or football fans though of course they many who are fans of a particular sport aswell.My village in the west of ireland is not a rugby village or even county yet i met people from it in london at the rugby world cup

I was in Ireland for a friend's wedding the week of this match. I remember vividly seeing this on TV in my hotel. I had never heard this song before, and I was absolutely blown away. Such a powerful piece of music. Ireland is a marvelous country.

I'm Scottish, but I've got Irish roots. I love being a Scot, but I just as much love being Irish. This is a beautiful piece - no need for an enemy to defeat, no reason to belittle anyone else. All you need is to hold your head high, know your friends, and be there when the call comes to be by their side.

Agreed fully, mate. Many of us Scots, including Highlanders (like the MacRaes, MacKenzies and MacLeans) have our origins in Ireland and additionally we have heaps of Scots in Northern Ireland who love Ireland and Scotland. We are all Gaelic. May God bless wir Gaelic peoples with peace. AMEN.

@@haroldinho9930 Well what should happen is northern Ireland form their iown team and take that nonsense song that spits on the graves of my ancestors. For so long growing up watching rugby I despised the northern players as they stood there, mouth closed as our national anthem played, then they bitched and moan had it removed and replaced it with something that has nothing to do with anything, all to appease a weak minority.

I remember this! Me and my Dad watching live from South Africa. We sing along every time we hear this anthem! and now we're busy imitating to Ireland! Oh i can't wait to get there what an amazing place Ireland is. My schools sport anthem is Come the day too. But replaced "ireland" with "Linden" but i still sing Ireland😂

+Jurre Dielen (TheTerminator) Only Rugby - because there are Northern Irish players and because Northern Ireland is part of the UK (very debatable subject and not in my name may I add) a 'National Anthem' was deemed inappropriate - therefore a 'jingle' was created - I actually don't like it at all ... it's such a 'not' Irish type of song ... BUT ... I still get tingles when it's sung ... go figure in the american sense of the vernacular ... but still - it's a very alien tune when compared to indigenous tune types - but we love our small island so we will sing anyway

Roof shut, the millennium stadium is simply the best stadium in the world to hear a national anthem. I was 13 when I went to see Wales play, my first ever game back in 2005, we played England and I tell you, there is nothing like it, hearing 65+ thousand Welsh men and women singing our anthem with the roof shut, the sound trapped in, bouncing off the roof back at you, amplifying it... the feeling is like nothing else! it is glorious. This is why you see smiles and when the anthem starts in some of the camera cuts. They were experiencing that day, a "home" game, with all their Irish men and women singing the call, the players and every Irish man and women experiencing that, must have felt bloody proud, because every time I've been since 2005 and the roof is shut... I know something magical is about to happen. Love it

Irelands Call is so beautiful as, 1. We are singing for the whole nation, Not a woman with big privileges and a fancy title. 2. Weter its the Republic or the North EVERYBODY is included.

This should be the anthem of United Ireland. Abhran na Bhfiann is quite insulting to the North and Britain, Ireland's call is about Uniting Ireland against the Vikings.

@@cameronburke8002 amhran na bhfiann isn't offensive. As far as I know, it's about the Irish fighting for freedom against the British. If people fighting for their freedom against invaders and oppressors is offensive to you then I think you need to get your act together

This isn't the national anthem of Ireland. The actual anthem is 'The Soldiers Song/Warriors of Destiny' (the name is untranslatable into English). This is just a random song used in rugby games.

Some don't like the song because when we got our freedom back from the British they kept the northern part of Ireland so it's a part of Britain. Then for like 50 or 60 years there were terrorist attacks and car bombs and shooting along the border from both sides. It's been settled but the rugby team is from all of ireland, so some of the players are from northern Ireland. They made a song that they could sing as the actual anthem is about getting freedom from the Brits but many are still angry about all the troubles that were on the border. It was the equivalent of a small war

Technically speaking its not the national anthem Irish rugby is made of 2 countries Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland or just Ireland. Generally speaking anyone from Ireland would be happy singing the real national anthem its called Amhran na bhfiann (solider call) and its in our native language. However the people of Northern Ireland wouldnt like to sing this as it doesn't represent their culture. So we sing Ireland's call which is a nice middle ground because people of both countries can respect it.
