It used to be the cool way to call yourself bisexual. I used to hear it all the time when I was a kid/teenager from the bisexual kids and adults. Nowadays I only hear it from people in their mid twenties and up. Personally I still say it cause I like how it sounds.
@NamiNuitsuki

Not only straight people. I know for sure I heard it mostly from bisexual people growing up. Like what Melon said, it was the trendy thing to call yourself if you were bi. Straight people heard bi people calling themselves that and thought that it was what they would prefer to be called. It's used much less now in both groups but I just wanted to correct you since some bi people do still like to call themselves that and don't consider it offensive or demeaning or anything like that. Note: this obviously depends on the person and what they would prefer you call them. No one person or group of people can speak for any entire community.

That whole thing was like a red flag for Ivy not being a real friend it seemed like the bubby bisexual was being playful and she was met with borderline homophobia. Ivy could have said, "Unfortunately I like boys." Or "In a perfect world" or "thanks, I needed that."... Ivy's response was more cringe than her bubbly bisexual friend hitting on her.

I will say this movie is interesting in one aspect: it stayed true to a lot of the original mythology of the Fae. The Fae is a actual thing in Celtic/Irish lore. They’re a race of these supernatural beings that lived in hollow hills all over Europe. There are many types of Fae such as Brownies (yes that’s the English word of their actual name and yes who do have a notorious sweet tooth.), Phouka, and the sidhe. The Sidhe were a stronger type of fey who were more gifted magically than other types and were essentially the nobles and royals of the fey courts in lore. They have been described to have shining skin and strangely colored eyes. I don’t know if I’m this movie the Ancients are supposed to be the sidhe or if the Fae coming into the human worlds are sidhe and the Ancients are the gods or if both types are sidhe but it doesn’t matter. Overall the Fae are a mischievous but for the most part not evil. They do like pulling tricks on humans and using magic to hide their appearance, make humans do things, etc. However what they consider mischievous is usually disaster for humans so for people who grew up with these stories they do warn of encountering the Fae. As long as you don’t fuck with Fae the tricks they will pull on you are generally harmless. But if you tuck with them or even invite them thinking you’ll get a magic wish you’ll be very sorry. There are ways to protect yourself from falling afoul of the Fae such as wearing or keeping certain herbs such as clover on your person. Cold iron is also effective in killing them as well though I can’t remember exactly why. Just think of it as silver for werewolves and vampires. There are a bunch of other elements to the Fae as well such as tells of a good or light court and bad dark court known as the Seelie and Unseelie courts respectively. I don’t know if this series ever touches on the lore of these two differing courts/races but most fiction based off it usually includes this dynamic so I’m sure it comes up in some capacity if not using those exact terms. In short I’m impressed of the amount of research and accuracy in the movie and assumedly the book it’s based off as well but movie is still shit and this comment really didn’t need to exist I’m just a nerdy black girl by the mythology of the Fae in general and thought it was interesting how spot on it was. Love your videos btw! You really inspire me in a lot of ways and I’m glad to see people who look like me talking about nerdy things in a fun way. 💕

Also, bisexuality is defined as attraction to 2 OR MORE genders, so some bisexual people, like myself, only use ‘swing both ways’ ironically bc the ‘both’ feels limiting. If I were to use it unironically I would probably say ‘swing in multiple directions,’ in reference to myself. ... So I study folklore. Like, "currently getting a master's degree in the history of fairy folklore in the United Kingdom" study, and this movie gave me a migraine. SOME DEFINITIONS FROM ACTUAL FOLKLORE FOR YOUR, LIKE, DAY- Brownie- A fairy who's name comes from the scots-gaelic word "brunaidh" (pronounced a bit like "broo-nai", the dh is silent). They are physically very small, wizend little humanoids that do not have wings in any folklore that I am aware of. They are often very well dressed and live in barns and homes alongside humans. They are well known for their love of cleanliness and will reward or punish homeowners for their housekeeping habits and typically follow families down generations of home ownership. Very similar to the Domovoi from Russia, but less violent. Do not like to be repaid in clothes, but do like to be repaid for their work of protecting and keeping the house safe with milk or unsalted oatmeal. Fae- A broad-strokes term for creatures from the Otherworld. Can apply to everything from elves to kelpies to dragons. Super broad term. Otherworld- A concept primarily gleaned from Irish folklore that is also present in Welsh folklore. Similar concepts exist in Japanese myth (see the story of Urashima Taro, very sad story). The essence of it is, essentially, that there exists a world parallel to or overlapping with ours that we cannot see. From that other place many magical or holy figures come. In Irish folklore the Tuatha de Dannan (gods who are also fairies, it is complicated) live in the Otherworld, also known as Land Under Wave(Tir fo Thuinn), the Land of youth (Tir na nOg), Mag Mell (Plain of Delight), or the Isle of Apple Trees (Emain Ablach). It is not some horrific hell dimension, but a land of magic, myth, and yes, some danger. Lots of folklore has places that exist above or under our world, like an afterlife underneath our feet, or a heaven in the sky, but the Otherworld as a specific concept is of note because it is not IN our world, but connected to it via liminal places. You could wander through an area that connects this world and the Otherworld without wandering into it specifically. Like if county lines were super broad and vague. Halfling- Hobbit. No, really, a halfling is a hobbit. I could not stop giggling about this the ENTIRE TIME. This is a term from Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings. Whoever made this story googled "fantasy races" and did not bother to scroll down to actually, like, understand what the words meant. Iron- not a definition so much as an explanation of WTF is up with the iron... thing. In some folklore, it is said that cold iron, forged iron, can harm fairy flesh by burning it. The reason for this is debated amongst scholars and believers alike, and it is not a truth universally accepted nor present in all world folklore. The effects of the iron are also not universal. Some accounts say iron repels fairies and disgusts them, some say it literally burns their flesh, but there isn't a universal standard. Leannan Sidhe- I'm surprised this term didn't come up in the movie, because this is an actual semi-vampiric-kind-of type of fairie in Ireland! Leannan Sidhe basically eat the life of the people they attach to. Interestingly, they specifically attach to artists and poets, inspiring their victims to make the best art of their (short) lives. These creatures are, it is said, why artists die so young. Aos Sidhe (pronounced Aas Shee)- Translating to "people of the burial mounds", this is one of the most well-known words for fairies in Ireland. Creideamh Sidhe- A collection of practices and beliefs, or Fairy Faith, that surrounds the idea of appeasing, pleasing, and generally not pissing off the Good Neighbors/People of Peace/Aos Sidhe. It is still practiced in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, and many of the isles surrounding those countries today. The Aos Sidhe can be very violent and even murderous when they want to be, and a lot of folklore is based on what happens when someone makes a mistake and ends up with a debilitating fairy curse on their head. For further reading on fairy folklore if you want to understand just how bad this movie is- The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries, by Gerrards Cross At The Bottom Of The Garden, by Diane Purkiss Meeting the Other Crowd, by Eddie Lenihan Fairy Mythology, by Thomas Keightly A Bibliography of Irish Mythology and Folk Tradition, by Caoimhin O Danachair The Faerie Queens, by Sortia d'Este Gods and Goddesses of Ireland, by Morgan Daimler Magical Folk, by Simon Young BTW, none of my upset is aimed at Kennie, just at the filmmakers for doing less than no research. I are upset. Enjoy this youtube comment that comes with a bibliography!

I have so much to say: - The supernatural plot wasn't bad though (with further development, it could've been good) - Them making Val (the bisexual black friend/sidekick) the snitch is low-key a hate crime. -Tink being comedic relief gives off "gay-best-friend" vibes. - "Sweetness" gave me traumatic flashbacks to 'cupcake' and 'are you lost, baby gorl?' 🤢🤮 - The... WIG... 👁️👄👁️ - Is Daddy David looking for a sugar baby? (asking for a friend) That's all I have to say. Love the Barbie hoodie 😍

As a bisexual i've never said "i swing both ways". It was a term used when bisexuality was just barely tolerated, and it being used in a movie made so recently is appalling. Also, the term brownie is actually the name for a subset of fae, they're small creatures who can be companions and help in different ways, but they definitely wouldn't just,,,live with a person. They have no need to

Aight so bare with me, I'm about to go full nerd mode. Disclaimer: this is just my knowledge from years of reading faerie YA mystery books. If anything is incorrect, I apologize. Fae: faerie (not to be confused with fairies) which are *usually* immortal mythical beings based in Irish folklore. They're separated into 2 courts - Seelie (Light) and Unseelie (Dark) (they're honestly both evil towards humanity, but the 2 courts don't mix+hate each other. The Seelie see themselves as good and vice versa). They have the ability to cast glamour to make themselves look beautiful and desirable. They usually view humans as either food or toys. There are also different species within the Fae. Those in the royal court are vastly stronger than most other Fae. Halfling: children born of a Fae and a Human, usually seen as abominations by pure blood Fae. Some will either look like their Fae parents or look entirely human (plus the added benefit of developing whatever power their Fae parent has) Brownie: small species of Fae, usually what most people consider when they think of fairies Also the reason lesser (weaker) Fae are able to get past the seals on the gates is because those seals are put in place to keep the Fae of the upper courts from getting out. Think of it like a mouse being able to slip through the holes in a cage that is keeping a tiger locked away. Haven't watched this movie (and I probably won't) but I hope that cleared up some of the confusion it caused by poorly explaining things lol.

@@emtims1670 Yeah, I watched Shadowhunters when it aired and I'd heard about Cassie Clare before(mostly about the whole, "Draco in leather pants" thing) but not much. So I researched as much as possible on the books and the author and on fanlore, it talks about the fic. The fic literally had Harry and Hermione date briefly over the summer before some year at Hogwarts. And Ron and Ginny begin sleeping together as a result? Until Harry and Hermione break up and Ginny ends things but Ron is obsessed with her now. It's all very weird. I never read it and she took it off the website it was on years ago, apparently.
