I gotta say the whole supernatural girl falls in love with a bad guy from a rival faction genre is another one where Chinese media is knocking it out of the park. Love Between Fairy and Demon has all this shit but it’s also got believable motivations, character growth and the wigs are fucking immaculate. If you need a 38 episode palate cleanser

Ok, I really hate to say this, but mythically, the "consent" issue fits. They're abiding by typical fae/sidhe rules of consent, which just means you willingly chose to give, say, or do something. Trickery, manipulation, and torture are allowed to the point that they're almost always involved with such issues. See, for instance, the legend of Tam Lin, where the mortal has to hold on to her lover even when he's turned into things that hurt or attack her to win his freedom from the fae queen. That said, the prince in the original Sleeping Beauty has sex with her and bounces without her waking up. The nursing of the twins she births (also while sleeping, so that's at least a bonus) wakes her up, not a kiss. So old tales aren't the best sources for concepts about consent.

OMG, the roof top scene felt so much like the that scene from "The Room", I couldn't stop laughing. I decided this was a comedy, it made the 2 1/2 hours more bearable. But yikes the wigs were bad, I don't remember her hair looking that bad in Wicked.

I'm not sure if this is where to leave recs but I watched a movie on Prime yesterday and it was a GEM. A 2014 teen werewolf movie called "Wolves" with Jason Momoa in it. Such a fun bad movie. Oddly nostalgic in a way too. Btw the main character is narrating in "Brooding hot 25 year old teenager" voice for the majority of the movie. 🤣 🤣

Okay, I never should have had any expectations from passionflix, but I was kind of hoping what they would do would be the prince would have to woo her and so he actually tried to do so properly and with an understanding of what consent is. So he started trying to woo her and that would include sharing more about why he is the way he is and it would be something like they were already being persecuted and so they kind of rose to the occasion because if they're going to be treated like they were murderers then might as well, it's all they can do to protect themselves. Then through having to interact with her he kind of starts to change his viewpoint and he's on the precipice of being an actually good person because all of his evilness came from some sort of good place and now her decision is between boyfriend who is dealing with his internalized racism against Fae and he's trying to accept her, but he's also trying to change her to be more human and trying to deny that she's half fae and between the prince who she's been against her whole life and he has done some legitimately awful things, but he's willing to change and do good and be good and it never came from a place of Mal intention Who is also encouraging her to be completely herself and be proud of both her human side and her fae side I'm just saying they would still have shitty wigs and problematic characters, but at least it would be more interesting character development and plot that isn't very loosey goosey with what consent means

i feel like this whole thing with the prince could've worked if the prince didn't reveal himself to Ivy immediately ? or right away ? Cuz like, if the prince appeared in front of her as just another Hot Guy (assumingly since he is the prince, he should somehow be strong enough to have abilities to hide his fae-ness lol from her) and flirted with her as a Hot Guy, he could've had a chance to actually get her to have sex with him. Like while he's flirting with her, maybe being some form of emotional support for her, he could engineer things in the background for Ren to find out that Ivy's a halfling and, since Ivy didn't tell him herself, this whole thing would lead to them breaking up and an emotionally vulnerable Ivy. THEN, the prince could take advantage of that vulnerability and get her to fall for him, which then would lead them to having (consensual) sex, which is all he wants in the first place. The thing with the prince had potential on being something good but of course, it's passionflix so😂

Its movies/books like these that makes me want to rewrite the plots to show how to fix bad stories. Not sure if that would make me an editor or a co-writer if I go into that as a job.
