Exactly what i thought, i have been through Germany, and i have never met a german who doesnt have perfect english
@masterman10014 ай бұрын
@@gashscumkar6909 I met quite a bunch of germans who weren't very proficient in english. Just like austrians and my swiss compatriots. While it's true that we all learn english in elementary/middle/high school, a good portion of students just aren't highly interested in language learning, and thus make no effort to preserve what they may or may not have learned over the course of their educational career. It should be a lot less likely to find a germanspeaker with less than a B1 level of english in Gen Z and Millennials, though. However they do exist. And I'd really like to hear her speak more, her accent is odd. Some pronunciations seem like she grew up surrounded by rappers like Sido, speaking a sort of neo-berlin accent with all this softening of "ch" sounds into "sch" (sh) sounds. But then she'll say stuff that sort of sounds like it was pronounced by someone from austria, like around 5:20 where she pronounces "dein" with a tiny bavarian tinge. But yeah overall it's difficult to gauge where they're from, it seems that more and more germans speak with a mix of accents heavily influenced by whatever they deem to be "cool" personally. Happens in Switzerland, too. Had a lot of people speak a sort of "kanacken-deutsch" (quite a derogatory term, a "Kanack" is usually a person originating from either the balcans or turkey, living in germany/switzerland/austria) because they wanted to fit in with some of the foreigners they went to school with. Anyway, doesn't matter. I do quite enjoy the mingling of different accents in standard languages. I speak a mixed version of the local dialect as well, after all.
@coo555554 ай бұрын
Honestly, most of the girls are probably playing up their inability to understand basic English, at least to a degree. It's the language you learn in school in most of the countries on the show, and the demographic of the show (influencers looking to get famous) realistically are going to know simple basic words. Not saying they are fluent or can have conversations.
@masterman10014 ай бұрын
@@coo55555 that's not untrue, but consider this: When my girlfriend was still doing her master's degree in english (in Italy), I would often accompany her to her classes and then get to experience a bunch of italian university students speak english. The grand majority of them (being supposedly B2-C1 level english learners, mind you) barely could string a sentence together, and unless the native speakers spoke in a perfectly bland RP or General American english, they would even have trouble understanding it. Of course, there are also native english speakers who will struggle with certain accents (northern english and scottish ones, for example), but native speakers aren't usually trying to achieve a Master's degree in english. Now, if university students struggle this much with the language (in fact most of them shouldn't have been allowed to graduate imo), you can imagine "regular" learners, especially if they natively speak a romance language, which seems to be the majority of the women on the program (brasilian portuguese, varieties of spanish, italian and french). Again, being a german speaker, you might have an easier time with english, but that also greatly depends on your will to learn and whether or not you're an actual native speaker. Tülay (the german) seems to be part turkish, and it's not unlikely that she might speak turkish with friends and family, or a mix between german and turkish. And while that shouldn't have a big influence on her english learning capabilities, I do think she might just not be super interested in growing outside of Germany. Her instagram seems to suggest as much. I did also find a video of her talking about not having done any higher education. But not because she's stupid, merely because she wanted to work instead of study further. And depending on what you do, english barely ever comes up in every day german life. Her german is flawless, of course, so that's already rare enough as it is for native speakers, lol.

It’s brilliant that in Portuguese there is no “looking for” figure of speech. At least, not one that you could easily mimic. Because of that, irregardless of whether she understood the “looking” sign, he could never convey the idea of “looking for.” Just brilliant. (Closest thing would be “searching for”, I believe, and that’s tougher to mimic than “to look for.”)
