No, it hasn't always been one word. You won't find "punchline" in the 1913 edition of Webster's dictionary for example. You probably won't find it in any 1966 dictionary either, but I can't say for sure because I can't find one online. In any case, tons of terms that were two words decades ago are commonly written as one word today.

@@dreamquesttv "It's like saying "luggage" is two words." No, it's nothing like that, since it's formed from the word "lug" and the suffix "age." Do you know what a suffix is? A suffix isn't preceded by a space, since it's not a standalone word. On the other hand, both "punch" and "line" are standalone words, obviously. "Punchline only ever meant one thing and one thing ONLY. It's ALWAYS ever been one word." You don't know what you're talking about. Even now, Merriam-Webster has it as two words: "punch line noun : the sentence, statement, or phrase (as in a joke) that makes the point Example Sentences She didn't understand the punch line." They also list several examples of current, notable usages of it as two words: This sad, breezy insight, not quite punch line or proverb, is a fitting ending for Riker’s strange little novel of cosmopolitan solipsism-the notion that withdrawing from others can still be a way of caring for them. - Nathan Goldman, The New Yorker, 21 Feb. 2023 On one hand, the utterance is a punch line, unexpected and sharp, just like the book’s title. - Nina Li Coomes, The Atlantic, 19 Aug. 2022 How could someone who lives in a city that doubles as a Fox News punch line - and who was a former board member of the ACLU and campaign contributor to Kamala Harris - lead the GOP? - Joe Garofoli, San Francisco Chronicle, 26 Jan. 2023 As a nonbinary person, Smith has been treated as a punch line by right-wing media. - Spencer Kornhaber, The Atlantic, 26 Jan. 2023 Micucci, Stevens, and co-star Martin Starr are all quite fun, but the joke loses all momentum on its way to a gruesome punch line. - Keith Phipps, Vulture, 28 Oct. 2022 The Cowboys need a victory to continue to stay on Philadelphia’s tail, to catch New York and to surpass Washington in an NFC East that will no longer serve as the punch line to jokes. - Dallas News, 25 Sep. 2022 Again, Forte masters the tricky balance between repetition, variation, and punctuation, with cuts to stock-footage explosions serving as the inevitable, and always perfectly timed, punch line. - Jesse Hassenger, Vulture, 21 Jan. 2022 Special teams coach Cam Achord cannot be in charge of that punch line of a unit anymore. - Chad Finn, BostonGlobe.com, 11 Jan. 2023

(excerpt from Wikipedia: Elizabeth Montgomery) Despite low ratings late in the series run, it was renewed for a ninth season to run from fall 1972. However, Montgomery's marriage to Bewitched director William Asher was in difficulties and the couple had separated by the end of the eighth season. This caused severe friction in their professional relationship and ended any possibility of another season.

That was the day when a gentleman got up to greet a lady! Or opened a door for a lady ( anyone really)

Geez hornball much. Kind of weird since she would be in her early 90s today. Have some respect.

Funny how Liz's team got the word dealing with something nautical: anchor. Kind of related to the SS Minnow. While Jim's team got the word for someone "witchy." Broom handle.

Elizabeth was amazing in Bewitched and was married to her producer William Asher..unfortunately it was her affair in the last season with her married director that ended the series and both marriages !!! Love Jim Backus :) PS Lindas' wig is amazing...you can see her brown hair at the front, very cute though !!
