One of my favorite voices in the world, for a very long time. Still sounding fantastic, with even more soul. She's also a first-rate songwriter who never got her due. But she did in our house--our girls can sing every one of her songs by heart.

Beautiful voice that has come down through the generations - wonderful
@shirleysheppard34835 жыл бұрын
No disrespect to June, but by her own admission, singing wasn't a strong talent with her. IMO, Carlene gets her vocal talent from her father, Carl Smith, one of the greatest ballad singers in the history of country music.
@yvonnemiller72044 жыл бұрын
I was fortunate enough to see Carlene in an outdoor concert here in Upstate NY in the late 1980's. My friend and I took a big bouquet of flowers to her bus, and asked the person who answered our knock, if they would give them to her. He shocked us both when he said, "Come on in and meet her!" You could have knocked us over with a feather! She was so kind and gracious to us, and one of the great joys in my life was to meet her. Those Carter genes run straight and true then and still today....love, love, love this lady...
@mikebarnard79572 жыл бұрын
Must have been wonderful as you say to have met her. Doesn't surprise me that she was so kind and gracious. You can just tell by seeing and listening to the great lady to sense that.

Big applause! I am going on 73. Mother Maybelle was my greatest influence for picking a guitar. Like Carlene I learned to pick the Wildwood flower in famous Carter Scratch style. There weren't many female pickers as i was growing up....just me and Mother Mabelle, I suppose. I prayed i would meet her and when she passed away i prayed I'd meet her daughters and now they are gone to heaven. I am running out of time.......Carlene, it's up to you, kid! Lol. You make them all proud and me too. Thank you and God bless....

June had the gift of being entertainer Anita and Carlene the gift of melodious voice, Roseanne the Gift of moxey with strong voice ! Mother Maybelle created the strumming/and picking sound we use today as demonstrated in this song . Just my take ✌️❤️
