(I know having been the step child to a stepfather who felt I was "in the way" and made that known to me from a young age.) This was after he adopted me even, most likely because my mother wanted him to. So I applaud the steps who are good parents in spite of the kids not being theirs biologically. I was treated like an outcast many times by him when I was a young child, although as I got older his behavior towards me did get better, but the emotional damage of not being loved or cared about by him had already been done to me when I was little.
