Kings dominate, Oilers prevail. Oilers take a 3-1 stranglehold in the series after a 1-0 win in LA on Sunday night. Strudwick, Gregor and Rishaug break it all down.

Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the LA Kings. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments at the end. Statistics for Edmonton Oilers at LA Kings April 28th, 2024 Playoffs Round 1, Game 4 Oilers 1, LA 0 (Oilers Lead Series 3-1) Oilers: Bouchard 1 Goal (PP, GWG) Draisaitl 1 Primary Assist (PP, GWG) McDavid 1 Secondary Assist (PP, GWG) Skinner 33 Saves on 33 Shots = 1.000 Save %age (perfect) Kings: Riddich 12 Saves on 13 Shots = .923 Save %age (really good) Oilers Kings Shots on Goal 13 33 Hits 27 41 Faceoffs Won 26 22 PP 1/1 0/1 Giveaways 6 (4 per NST) 3 (2 per NST) Takeaways 5 2 Blocked Shots 19 (15 per NST) 17 (13 per NST) 3 Stars: 3-Riddich (.923 Save %age), 2-Skinner (1.000 Shutout), 1-Bouchard (GWG on the PP) Oilers Player Stats: Player TOI SOG +/- PIM Hits Blocks Giveaways Takeaways Ceci 22:35 0 0 0 1 2 1 0 Bouchard 22:27 2 0 0 0 2 1 0 Ekholm 21:16 1 0 0 1 2 0 0 Nurse 20:14 1 0 0 2 1 0 0 Desharnais 17:21 0 0 0 1 2 0 0 Kulak 15:22 0 0 2 1 2 0 0 McDavid 21:57 1 0 0 2 3 0 1 Draisaitl 20:27 3 0 0 0 3 0 2 Nuge 18:19 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 Hyman 17:10 1 0 0 3 0 0 0 Henrique 17:10 0 0 0 5 2 0 0 Kane 16:23 2 0 0 2 0 1 1 McLeod 15:05 0 0 0 0 1 0 1 Perry 11:47 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 Janmark 10:51 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Foegele 10:33 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 Ryan 9:38 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 Holloway 9:25 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 Oilers Faceoffs Won Lost Percent Draisaitl 11 7 61.1 McDavid 10 9 52.6 McLeod 3 4 42.9 Ryan 1 1 50.0 Nuge 1 0 100.0 Holloway 0 1 0.00 Kings Faceoffs Won Lost Percent Kopitar 10 8 55.6 Dubois 8 3 72.7 Danault 2 7 22.2 Moore 1 0 100.0 Byfield 1 1 50.0 Lizotte 0 3 0.00 Lewis 0 1 0.00 Laferriere 0 1 0.00 Arvidsson 0 2 0.00 Oilers proved they can win a 1-0 game and hold a single goal game lead for over a period. Riddich did better than Talbot in net (though the guys in front of him probably were playing better too). MUCH MUCH more disciplined game with each team getting 1 power play (that the Oilers converted on and the Oilers PK stayed at 100% by denying the Kings). Oilers now lead the series 3-1 and head back home for game 5 in Edmonton on Wednesday (so a longer break to give a bit more recovery time or work on little things). As Bouchard said in the postgame, they didn't take ANY Shortcuts. One more to round two. Now just to win it. Take care all.

No it wont, Skinner had an easy night. They only worked him N/S when hes most vulnerable E/W. They shot to much 30% of those LA possessions should have come to the net for dekes or snapshot.Next game they will.

Oilers should concentrate on playing defense first, our opportunities will eventually come like last night. Plus we have more skill players and scorers who can finish which imo will put us over the top.

They did play great on d, lots of shots from the exterior, and so many sticks and pucks in lanes. You don’t finish a game 1-0 without elite goaltending and defending.

First off I find it sad that the Oilers have been handed the PPs to win on Special Team alone...its kind of pitiful that the best PLayer in the League must live and die by the PP.....says a lot about the NHL compared to the NBA and other Pro SPorts...That was called the 3-Layer forecheck, or more formerly the 1-1.5-2.5 did you like it? Kris had no answer , Jim had no time to add offensive pushbacks or LA would have scored a lot more , thats coming next because of the break .Should have been 6-1 LA. Shots were all from the outside because the System focus was new but that will change fast. Plus EVERYONE ELSE IS WATCHING AND UPDATING THEIR BOOKS. Average game by Skinner even a Blind Squirrel finds 2 nuts every morning , optics are not everything that SO was a gift that only came because there was no time to add the Offense to the 3-Layer Forecheck, which WILL derail the Oilers this Playoffs, it is just being showcased now with LA but other Teams are already using it. Things just got real. @Mike Smith ..... buckle up Buttercup the NewAge Hockey Systems Daddy is in the House.

Ice Cold Take Alert. Which is it? Should have been 6-1 LA, or Skinner was average? What a load of nonsense. Whatever helps you sleep at night, bud.

Game 2 should've been 12 - 4 Oilers if not for Talbot. Played out of his mind and still let in 4. Boys got outpressured and still managed to keep most of the shots to the outside and Skinner stood tall to make the big saves when he was needed, like your goalie needs to do some games. Both teams had a powerplay, Oilers capitalized on theirs and the Kings got massively outplayed on theirs; most of their powerplay was spent chasing a cleared puck back to their own end. Oilers made mistakes defensively or rushed a pass to nobody but the reason it didn't lead to goals against was the follow-up effort to recover and keep the 2nd opportunity to the outside.

@@hardcaliber19 Skinner was average..all he had to do was stand behine a wall of Players and let pucks from he outside hit his body...lol lol lol...yes it was a very domestic game or Skinner and had LA added a few Offensive tweaks to the System destruction they handed the Oilers it should have been 6-1 Kings. Next game they will stomp the Oil.

@@BobsUruncle-dl7cs if they added offense to their play they would have opened up defensively and got outscored with how well skinner played. Boston was supposed to sweep florida last year and blew a 3 - 1 series lead, tampa was supposed to sweep columbus in 2019 and got swept instead. Hellebuyck was supposed to be a brick wall and the jets swept the season series against the avs handily and are now down 3 - 1 in their series with hellebuyck letting in 5.22 goals against over 4 games. The regular season doesn't mean shit in the playoffs, injuries happen and teams have a better chance in a 7 game series than they do in any isolated match throughout the season.
