There wasn't a lot of people in the audience. In a comedy club the last comedian on stage was the one that was just getting their start. This was probably around 12 AM, people are drunk, a lot of people are leaving or have left, so not many people are into it at this point, but Patrice kept on going with no hesitation. Bernie Mac talked about all of his failures when he began comedy, but he never gave up. I wonder how many great comedians we never got to see because they gave up when the crowd wasn't into it.

@Koldeman3 жыл бұрын
There are a few things of interest going on here. Firstly, he lobs a couple grenades into the crowd to see what he's up against. When the reaction is anywhere from slightly amused to indifferent, he fires a couple surgical strikes at the ones who appear to display the most resistance to his comedy style. Once the audience is "weeded out" & adequately acquainted with the Patrice treatment, he goes into his set. And since this crowd is clearly pretty sparse & only mildly engaged, Patrice knows he can throw down low-hanging fruit & try out material that he's still trying to polish. Any other comedian might get panicked & start trying his/her best bits & fool-proof zingers. Not Patrice. He takes this opportunity to work on his material and experiment on ideas he's developing. Folks, this is a comedian's classroom and Patrice is taking full advantage of it. This is really interesting to see. What a pro!
