That's the sad part. Patrice feared fame as much as he deserved it. He was constantly burning bridges (often mentioned, but rarely explained in these AWESOME videos). He didn't want to be in a position to "OWE" anyone. His mindset was that OWE meant that he was OWNED. He couldn't distinguish when someone was honestly trying to HELP HIM (i.e. Chris Rock, Spike Lee...) and when someone was trying to "enslave" him. I'd love to think he'd be a huge start, had he lived. But the truth is, without real guidance and a strong, sharp business manager/agent, he couldn't see the forest through the trees. Adjusted for Patrice: He couldn't see the jungle through the palms. Spite me if you will. But he would have laughed his ass off at that joke.

Also he has over 130 appearances on the show so while he may have not been being paid I would say he was as close to being on staff without actually being on staff. Love listening to these again.. There are so many layers. For example.. At 45:00 the way Patrice calmly mentions the install is not for him.. He calmly makes the "I don't get in pumpkin" to show an acknowledgment of the joke with a funny jab right back. He let's them finish their 3v1 and he calmly states again "it's not for me, I don't get in" Then he waits for the right time and makes a definitive statement "gotta keep it fresh, you know?" You can apply this to anytime your getting heckled by your buddies. You acknowledge, make a playful little jab at the one who started.. Let them talk and then talk about something other than yourself that others can agree with (the you know? Statement) I'm sure there is a time and place for everything but I love how he handles himself here. The only time I wouldn't copy Patrice's style is when he was told on the BPShow that callers think his content is dragging on and he should move on to something else. His defense was a sarcastic mockery of what a caller would sound like. I would have loved to hear him go on about this show talks about relationships and reiterating the fact that no matter the girl... These behavioral trends are self evident (see the grand finale with 3 very different women in ep.12) What was important and I know he has stated this but whatever he does is genuine and what he feels.. Whatever your style is.. You can always learn from others but make sure it is genuine.
