Which explains why so many kids hate Math and science. And why we are so behind as a Nation in terms of producing quality Stem graduates. Those so called Academic types teachers and Professors don't understand math and Science as well as they think.
@55vermeer
@55vermeer 6 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. The same number of "artistic" right-brain math-hating kids are born every generation as are the number of left-brain math "nerds". Those skills are born with you "a priori" and a teacher can't do much damage either way. America is generally behind as a nation because it is a nation of generally uneducated people from the generally better educated countries which teach BOTH the arts and the sciences.
@jumpstart55million
@jumpstart55million 6 жыл бұрын
+Hippolyte Thelonious Hieronymus Tzu You say that...Yet back in the 60s a lot of kids loved Math. The general attitude towards math today is that it's boring...Hordes of kids Disliking math was not a problem for most of modern history...In Fact many artist from the renaissance era had an extraordinary understanding of math....So it's straight BS that artists generally don't gravitate towards math and vice versa...Math can be very engaging and creative especially at the higher levels. The reason why America is behind is because the culture has changed...This isn't a culture of being greatly educated it's more about getting likes and having everyone like you developing the mind has been tossed to the way side. Trust me with the right teacher even the Slowest kid would find himself absolutely enthralled by math. And your right some kids do gravitate more towards the Arts and some more towards math because of natural ability..But teaching creatively based on individuals helps all.
@55vermeer
@55vermeer 6 жыл бұрын
Kids not liking math is not a problem now. Except in the media. Human nature doesn't change. We need more right-brain artists in this culture, not more left-brain technicians. We are drowning in technology. "Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character. It is abhorrent to me when a fine intelligence is paired with an unsavory character. All our lauded technological progress, our very civilization, is like the ax in the hand of the pathological criminal. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted... Perfection of means and confusion of aims seems, in my opinion, to characterize our age. ...I am a determinist. As such, I do not believe in free will. The Jews believe in free will. They believe that man shapes his own life. I reject that doctrine philosophically. In that respect I am not a Jew. I am Oriental by blood." - Albert Einstein "Quod est. Quod erit? Quod fuit... What was? That which is. What will be? That which was... What was? What is?... The Will, whose mirror is life, and Will-free Knowledge beholding the Will clearly in that mirror. ...Man can do what he wills but he cannot will what he wills." - Schopenhauer

Patrice is right. The Dr. is being too proud to say “I don’t know.” He can then theorize “how to know going forward” but he was too proud to admit he doesn’t know RIGHT NOW. That is why Patrice is the correct personality to have as a true friend. He will keep you honest and that way you can lead a sincere life. That’s what it’s all about. Being sincere.
@MaxPowers2.0
@MaxPowers2.0 5 жыл бұрын
No the Dr didn't think to say "i don't know" because thats the default position. The problem solving process is to start from an "i don't know" and build a list of "what we do know" until you arrive at a potential solution. Patrice is a genius when it comes to women and comedy but this time he showed his dumbness. Most dumb people look at the guy saying "well we know this, and we know this, and we know this" and they think well that guys just a friggin know it all. Thats not always true.
@MaxPowers2.0

Sure but afterwards, Patrice admitted that Michio Kaku is a top physicist while he is an asshole so he already admitted his level of status. If he is an asshole then he is not there to ask a question in which it would pursue a benefit for the community or inheritance but ratherly, just there to poke problems around and probably just for his own personal gain. It's best to put trust on someone with a higher level of degree of knowledge and they dont know the answer than to believe an asshole. If he is an asshole then he will be one to you as well.

"What do you think the solution is, Mr Kaku?" Everyone asks. "I think we need to make the Navy fix it," he says, at least six times in a 15 minute period. Understandably, Patrice says, "So you're saying you don't know much about working at 5,000 ft either, then?" "No, you're missing the point," Kaku retorts, and proceeds to say that we need the Navy to do it, again, and "We need physicists, this is no longer an engineering issue, it's a physics issue" Well, Mr. Kaku, you are a physicist, and whenever someone asks you what to do, you point to someone else. Kaku just repeats that the Navy should figure it out........ instead of just saying, "I don't know what to do" like an honest guy, or fessing up that he has no clue what to do at 5,000 ft below the surface of the water. When someone asks what your solution to a problem is, and you reply by simply naming a group of people you think would help, it means YOU don't actually have a solution. They aren't asking Mr Kaku who he thinks is best suited, they are asking for his own idea on an actual solution. Since he avoids answering, I assume he has nothing. Edit: My point is, despite not knowing, or caring what to do, he goes on his little media tour milking all the money he can. Also, from an academic perspective, physicists never fix anything. It is literally always engineers. Engineers do, physicists theorize. He doesn't mean that the physicists should go in there and fix it..... He means the physicists should sit in a cozy room and keep ordering heroes to go down there until they accidentally stumble upon an idea that works IRL, and not just on paper.. Mr String Theory in a nutshell.

You dont see the point. Calling out anyone is easy and anyone can do it. Finding a solution to the problem is what makes it difficult. Michio also asked him what his solution is and he doesnt know. He then admitted that he is just an asshole. Putting trust on someone with a higher level of degree of knowledge is more potential and beneficial than someone who is an asshole. If he is an asshole then he's going to be one to you as well.

Light which the sun gives off moves at a maximum speed of 299,792,458 miles per second (in a vacuum, which space is). We know this because we've measured it. To the people that think that Patrice got Kaku with his question about an answer, your not understanding that he cannot give an answer without data. I used to build cabinets for a living and you would not believe how many people would say "how much do you charge to do kitchen cabinets ? " Them they get mad when you say that you can't give them a price without looking at the space first. You have to know how fast they want it done, what type of materials, what is the budget, how big is the space. There are do many variables that go into getting an answer

Yeah, it's like asking a mechanic how much to fix your car before they've even looked at it. It's also a problem with how science is taught. If students are forced to memorize answers to questions in order to pass tests, it leads to people thinking science is a static thing and scientists just have memorized answers for everything, the way you might think your doctor can answer any questions you have offhand like a human encyclopedia. It just doesn't work that way and the answer is almost always more complicated than the question when it comes to science.

He's a theoretical physicist. Fucking theorize. Nobody expected him to come up with a finalized official fucking solution, ffs. Even his hypothetical group of nondescript physicists, one of them will have to propose an idea to the group, without a historical example of previous success. It's like Kaku's whole plan is to get this group of scientists together, so he can listen to all of them come up with ideas. If this was a regular person, everyone would assume he has nothing, or at least some kind of fear of rejection. Sure he knows what won't work, and why the things they tried didn't work..... Excellent, hindsight is always 20/20. Give him the Nobel prize, he did something that everyone on Earth was capable of, "Well that didn't work, we need to try something else" No fucking shit, you think so?

FYI: The shit that takes million years to come out, that Patrice was talking about is the photon. And Patrice was right on with that example - it's mind boggling. The photon travels at the speed of light, and yet it takes it a million years to travel from the core of the sun to it's surface. What makes the travel so long is the density of the sun's core. The photon keeps banging around all the stuff around it which greatly slows its speed and bounces it around in all directions.

Men create more problems than they can solve because we live in a profit driven world. There are different levels of knowledge, the lowest level is painstaking pysical investigation. The highest is intuition or insight. Just to know something for mare curiosity without purpose of application is mind clutter.
