True. One of the most haunting films ever made. I cried so MUCH. Mason's story reminded me in some parts of mine. It was an out of body experience to watch it. It was disheartening, gutwrenching and beautiful to watch this kid grow up. It made me realize how time flew and flies so rapidly, how fragile and fleeting life can be, how in the blink of an eye you were an innocuous kid, then a rambunctious teen and turning without warning as a full blown adult. And in between, you face predicaments, deaths, drama, confusion, angst, first times, first kisses, meet your best friends who might stick till the end or not, lose your virginity or not, succeed at school or fail expeditiously, you live to the fullest until settling down, move-ins and move-outs, witness your parents fighting, have your first dog, spend countless sleepovers talking about girls or boys even both, gossip about anyone at school and playing videogames, go to camp spending summers of a lifetime with kids you'll never see again or not, you crush on other people, you get your heart broken, you fight with your parents and siblings but you learn how to LIVE. And still, the older you get, you never cease learning and growing. Watching Boyhood left me reeling and crying for a whole night. But I felt pride and closure. My past has been a tainted, wild journey but turning into a 28 year old graduate from grad school with a Master's degree, living in Paris and able to withstand depression, two suicide attempts, being a gifted child with ADHD, bullying and being bullied, my mom's car crash, losing some friends to untimely deaths or by going to jail for drug selling or murder and overcoming alcohol abuse. Boyhood is not only a movie but a statement of life's beauty of life's fast but invisible pace, of time's unfathomable but irresistible grip on our fate. It's an embodiment of what time is, how every single decision and mistake contained in one life can shape and affect you but not necessarily determine who you'll become. It's a wheel in constant motion which takes us, rolls us along, makes us go from young to old to then, eventually kill us.
@jjs1990 Жыл бұрын
@@moisemensah8233 It was an okay movie. The concept was good but the execution was lacking as it was definitely boring in a lot of parts. It was literally not as deep as you’re making it and never will be. To use words like “haunting,” “gutwrenching,” & “disheartening” is just too much lol

Patricia Arquette has great acting in Boyhood. In her Oscar acceptance speech for Boyhood (2014) she made remarks about gender inequality, which instantly went viral as the millions of people watching the telecast at home weighed in. Women's groups say that the only times they have seen more buzz around the topic of income disparity was when Lilly Ledbetter, the activist who sued Goodyear for paying her less than male counterparts, addressed the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and 2012, and when Barack Obama took up the mantle of equal pay in State of the Union address in 2015. Patricia Arquette is the first member of the Arquette family to receive an Oscar nomination, and also the first to win the prize.

***** Well it's not like she has to ever worry about wage equality, and she's preaching about it as if she's experiencing it now. It just doesn't make much sense when celebrities who are making thousands a week talk like they're unhappy with their pay. It seems a bit irrelevant for her to be talking about wage equality when her dress is probably worth more than someone's annual income.

+WeAreTheInsurgents Well maybe, I don't know, she's talking about all the other women in the US as well? And still, who gives a shit if she's rich? Does it make it less important that men in the industry still make alot more money than woman for the same job? It's still very unfair.

Absolutely deserved win. And the most deserved in that category since Mo'Nique in my opinion. Dern was pretty good, especially with the little screen time she had. Stone was ok, but people just go crazy about her because she had that shouting scene. I think Watts was better in Birdman. Knightley's performance was pretty good, but in the end, both Knightley and Stone were nominated because of the buzz around their movies. And then there's Streep. Honestly, no other actress would have got nominated for playing an overacting witch in a Disney movie. Close, Mirren, Dench could have done that role in their sleep. I bet Blanchett will be better in Cinderella than Streep in Into the Woods, but Blanchett won't even be considered for a nomination because the movie is a Disney Fairytale. But if Streep appears in a movie, she has to get her obligatory nomination.

"Emma Stone and Knightley were nominated because of the buzz around their movie" REALLY?? Fuck off dude get your facts straight, that's just stupid and immature to say and you're minimizing Stone and Knightley just because their movies went "too famous". Come on, man.

Sabrina Ross That's why I was pissed when Emma Thompson didn't get nominated for Saving Mr. Banks and instead Meryl Streep get's the nomination for August Osage County and no offense but Julia Roberts deserved the nomination WAY more than Meryl. So if any other actress is in a Disney production, no nominations. But if Meryl is in it, nominations.

I hated Streep's nomination for August: Osage County, I would have loved to see Thompson finally get another nomination after so many years.

Diego Castellanos You don't understand what I mean and you don't have to say that I should "fuck off". The thing is: If a movie is beloved by the academy, it (mostly) gets as many nominations as possible. Look, I don't think that Knightley and Stone were bad. I think they were good, I'm totally ok with Knightley's nomination, not so much with Stone's (but that's more because I don't find her much more deserving than Naomi Watts in the same movie). Stone and Knightley were locks. Why were they locks? Because everyone knew that Imitation Game and Birdman would get a lot of nominations. If A Most Violent Year had had the same buzz as The Imitation Game, Chastain would have easily got nominated. Same goes for Nightcrawler and Russo or Snowpiercer and Swinton. But in the end it doesn't matter. Get your facts: Arquette was the only one who was a standout. Apart from that performance, this year's Supporting Actress category was not much stronger than the lineups of the last years.

Laura Dern was the best in this Top 5 but they DID NOT nominate the Best Supporting Actress that year. Rene Russo was by far the greatest in "Nightcrawler". And stop trashing Jennifer Lopez. She acts better than 60% of our modern so-called "superstars" in Hollywood

A simple Thank you for standing up for women' s equality! It amazes me how people forget how far we have come and how far we have yet to go. If you need to refresh your memory, just watch The Sufragette.

My ranking: 5.kiera Knightley-The imitation game: she Brought the needed warmth in a rather one dimensional role but she just didn't impress me at all. Best scene: Joan visits Turing in the hospital 3.5/5 4.Meryl Streep- into the woods: Streep is the reason to watch into the woods she is incredibly entertaining and she steals scenes like crazy but I just didn't find her award worthy :/. Best scene: "stay with me" song 4/5 3.Patricia Arquette-boyhood:she was very good at portraying a mother that raises her kids while fighting for her dreams,she is also heartbreaking at portraying her loneliness and desperation of her children leaving her to collegeUnfortunately the story didn't really let her shine besides her final scene, I was left wanting more of Arquette. Best scene: Mason leaving to college. 4.5/5 2.Emma Stone-Birdman: or the unexpected virtue of ignorance: Emma Is amazing at portraying her Sam's disconnection with her father but at the same time showing a lot of love for him,her chemistry with Edward norton and Michael Keaton is outstanding, she really adds a lot to Birdman and deserves much more recognition for her role. Best scene : Sam confronts her father about being relevant. 4.5/5 1.Laura Dern-Wild: Astonishing performance by Dern, in just 10 mins of screen time Dern created a three dimensional human being out of a potentially one dimensional role, she is tragic, inspiring and lovable all at the same time, she showed that no matter what a mother goes through she will always be happy for her children,her face when she finds out about having cancer is devestating to watch. her final scene in the kitchen was (in my opinion) one of the best acted scenes of 2014, her monologue despite being short left me in tears And heavily inspired. Amazing work, deserves far more credit than she is given. Best scene:"happy people sing" 5/5
