Patrick Brammall on the differences between Aussie and American comedy

No Activity creator and star Patrick Brammall is an Australian native and an accomplished comedian. His series is making its way to the states via CBS All Access. No Activity is a cop show, but instead of featuring lengthy action sequences and gritty drama, it focuses on the unremarkable, mundane moments during criminal activity when nothing of interest happens. For Brammall, this kind of situational irony helps distinguish Australian comedy from American comedy. In the video above, Patrick Brammall discusses bringing the show to the states and the differences between Australian and American comedy.

Became a fan when we watched “Upper Middle Bogan” aka “Bess of Both Worlds”, and in the “Moody” series! Even enjoyed “Call Your Mother”. Hope to watch this new series as well.

I have not seen the American version of No Activity yet, but the Australian version is a work of genius. There is actually a lot of activity, but the characters are absorbed in their own meaningless lives and are totally oblivious to what is going on around them. Unfortunately, the Australian version seems to be unavailable on anything at the present.

In US. Quarantining HARD because of underlying health conditions. Just learning of existence of P. Brammall thanks to "Offspring" on Netflix. Seemingly good person. Talented comedic actor. Sexy AF. Thank you, PB, for the diversion.

The whole convicts vs puritans framing is kind of facile. The British started sending convicts to Australia in the first place because they couldn't send them to America anymore!

Patty nailed Upper Middle Bogan, was a star in the Moodys, and No Activity is… well, good. Not sure about this U.S. version, primarily because of his feigned accent, but interested and happy to see that the international ‘formula’ of The Office has been plastered unto another show…
