This car is featured in the rarest color code 76 Daytona Yellow. Only 2,184 total Daytona Yellow 1969 Chevelles in all body styles were sold. This is also 1 of only 400 units sold in 1969 SS396 Chevelles featuring the special hi performance L78 396 engine with the upgraded L89 aluminum cylinder head option. Quite possibly less than 5 ever assembled with these options and ever fewer than 5 examples exist today. Other driveline options include the original M21 muncie 4-speed transmission and original KK code 4.10 positraction rear axle,

My brother had a jade green '69 SS 396 back in 1970. I don't think there was anything rare about it, but it was a 4 speed. He built the engine to the MAX with a nasty sounding cam and a tunnel ram intake. I rode in it one time with him driving, and that was enough for me.....every shift, it sounded like, and felt like it was on ice.....Keystone Classics all around, that was a beautiful car..

@@zulumagoo1 I grew up in a body shop family in the 1960s. Saw my first ratfink being freehand airbrushed on a t shirt in 1966 at the Michigan state fair..It was like being hit in the head with a bat.. The chopper movement was exploding and Some hippies in California were making drop on bodies for motorcycles.a one piece tank sidepanels rear fender and seat arrangement that was the coolest thing on earth. The paintwork on these bodies looked incredibly complex but it was an illusion. It was a process that used a taped layout multiple times by adding or removing details to mimic depth and dimension to a design and the technique I stole from them made the work move quickly, reduced or eliminated multi tapings and blows me away to this day.The Panel work on the chevy made me recall the sunny and clear Easter holiday in 1973 when the local Dodge dealer had dropped off 4 Tradesman 100s to our shop. I was 14 years old.And I realized I had a license to steal...Notice the shape and size of the fish scales on the car. They are paint strainers held in place and dusted over, probably with a Jam gun..

This reminds me a little of a C2 Corvette (not sure what year) I saw running around my neighborhood a few times as a little kid in the early '80s. Flared rear wheelwells, Stinger hood, side pipes and it was covered in murals of desert mountains, sunsets, baying coyotes, etc. I think the underlying paint color was a yellow-gold or yellow if I recall. Only saw and heard it rumbling by maybe 2 or 3 times and never encountered it again. Wonder if it's still out there somewhere in the world....maybe it's even languishing in a garage with that same old period custom paint job! There were still plenty of street machines and street freaks done in the '60s and '70s roaming the streets when we Gen Xers were impressionable young'uns.

I’ve actually seen one locally about twenty Miles north of Seattle about a year or two ago - it was a Malibu, I just looked didn’t know the yellow was so rare. Good lookin car doubt it had been preserved but worth mentioning

I LOVE the 70s custom paint job on this EXTREMELY rare Chevelle. If it gets restored, I hope it's repainted the same way since it most likely spent most of its life that way. On the other hand, I can't imagine how hard it would be to find someone able to replicate the airbrush work or, how much it would cost!

@Say Whut? I've seen the video. I know HOW to do it, I'm just not talented enough. I admit that freely too lol!

The guy was smart to remove the logos it had in the 80's and hide it behind a Boogie Van paint job..

Don't think I'd start it again until I found the valve or cam problem. Sounds pretty rough. Thanks for the video, I appreciate these.

When I start a motor that I know hasn't ran for a long time, I always pull the distributor and prime the oil system for a while. Even then there can be rust on cam lobes.

The valve-train noise is a given, not to mention what could be one hell of an exhaust leak! I always like to use the oil-primer tool that spins the oil pump via a drill thru the "lightining-whirler" hole and primes the lifters/pushrods. 5 minutes of time can save 2.5 hours of tear-down & a CHUNK of coin on a rebuild....

Great job Patrick, I've got 66 tunnel vision, it's amazing to me how long I thought the 69, had the square quarter glass instead of the arrow quarter glass. Did the 69 model year have two different styles of quarter glass?

My friend acquired a '69 Malibu ragtop that was " converted " to that colour. It was a stand out for sure. Had the 350 with 4 bolt main and slushbox 400 in it too. I thinkin' 3.23 ratio rear ? We mistreated that car badly but were ripped off when he went to build the engine. Then he lost interest and the car was scrapped. Sad day indeed. Best lookin chevy body style there was.
