1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 discovered in a barn in Virginia. The owner had owned the car since 1970. The Chevelle turns out to be the earliest known assembled documented LS6 example from the Atlanta, Georgia assembly plant to surface to date. The car started and run smooth after being parked for decades.

Rest In Peace Randy Easlick. I’m really fortunate to have had the privilege of meeting you through my work. We had a great time when I visited you to document your recent LS6 Chevelle discovery. You took me out to dinner and treated me like royalty. You were a great guy and my heart goes out to all those who were closest to you. Especially your children. The world needs more people like you. Gone but not forgotten.

Love the collection. Before my dad passed away he moved to Arkansas from florida in the 70s, and took his 1970 Chevy T-top Corvette up with him. He parked it in the garage here and its been sitting for 40 years but its in almost running condition. I can't wait to get it running soon, and fix whats gotta be fixed on it. Its almost perfect

You'd be much better off with a hellcat or Mustang GT of today than that early iron. Today, you get all the luxury and safety features of a modern car included with all that speed. With 4:10 gears I bet that thing runs at 3000 rpm at 60 mph and gets about 9 MPG.

CONSOLETHUMBS: I love muscle cars as well, but they were very dangerous. It would be great if they could keep the original shape but put crumple zones and passive safety equipment in them. The problem would be that the body would not be pedestrian friendly in a crash.

This car is a fine example of American craftsmanship, whether you're old school or new gearhead. You guys crack me up, arguing about small points of personal interest when we all know you're ALL right. Big picture here is more than 3 generations of full blood gearhead having a discussion about a beautiful old car! I like them all... My first car was a 66 Chevelle SS 396. Does anyone know if they built a 66 with the HO 396/M22/410 or 411 combo? That's what mine had and sat on 15" Craigars. It was, hands down, the best car I've ever had and also the biggest pain in the ass lol I miss it terribly...

I will never forget the first '70 Chevelle SS. I can't say for sure it was a 454 or not.(I was 8 years old) The owner was in the military and was moving to a new base. He was pulling a small y'all haul trailer and had Jack knifed it turning around on a side street. Unfortunately, he got it to lurch forward and right into the path of my Mother's 1963 Fairlane that was going probably 40ish. That was April of 1970. Mom's tank was fixed but the SS was totaled. I saw it in a local junkyard a few months later when Dad and I were getting a new rearview mirror for his '64 Falcon wagon.

Wow how time has changed our perspective. I found a wrecked 70 LS6 in 1977. It had the engine, but the 4 spd and 12 bolt had been removed. I bought it, installed a 4.10 12 bolt, and a THM 400. Put a hotter cam, a Offy dual quad intake, 2 650 cfm AFBs and slicks. First time out it ran a 12.01, and I tuned it to 11.83. Now don't shoot me, after all it was 1979, after welding the cracked frame repeatedly, I parted it out and installed the running gear in a (don't shoot me again) 69 Z28 RS. That car ended up running 10.80s

Nice car, what a find...I had bought an LS-6 crate motor almost 30 years ago,and found the M-22 rock crusher trans at my friends junk yard, that I paid $100. for and the insides were excellent,I also pick up a 12 bolt and there are 2 different rears, one being made of nodular iron and the other cast.I plan on sticking them all into my '69 elcamino I've been making sweet. The only difference in your LS-6 and mine is the compression ratio, mine is 10.2:1 and I believe yours is 11.1. I bought this motor from Texas, for $2600. and have had offers of 10K.It's amazing what people will pay.Man I'd love to see your chevelle restored. It should be the cats meow...

I've owned several Chevelles over the years. My first was a 66 SS 396, 2nd was a 72 Malibu and last was a 70 Malibu. The 66 was a true SS that I totaled, at age 17, over a girl. I was lucky to survive the crash and meet my (now) wife of 30 years a year later. The others were plain Jane cars that I built into small block powered street racers. I knew that wifey didn't like me street racing but she knows that those cars, along with my factory job, paid our rent and helped put her through nursing school so, she kinda looked the other way. She's also a car lover. The 70 Chevelle has always been my favorite though and this is what I liked about the video- years ago (1989) when I bought the 70 Malibu, just for poop n laughter, I researched the cowl tag with the little information that was available back then. Don't ask me how I remember this but my 70, Tuxedo Black, Saddle bench seat Malibu was also a December, Atlanta built car. I couldn't help picturing the LS 6 in the video and mine nose to tail on the assembly line, mine jealous because it was only getting a 307. After I bought it, I gave it a full house 408 small block as a street racer, so, the jealousy was fixed. I left the 307 emlems on the fenders though. My fun toy now is an original 74 Z-28 that I bought as a roller. It now has a 427 small block, Richmond 4+1, and all the other goodies that allow it to carry me to low 9s on the strip. There's no nitrous and "stock type" suspension and it's still truly street legal. Yes, I have learned my lesson about street racing but the wife and I still take it out and raise a little hell on Sunday afternoon ice cream runs now and then lol! Also, the 70 Malibu that I used to own still survives and it's back in my shop now. Wifey found and bought it as a 30th anniversary present for me...gotta love her. It needs lots of work and the 408 is long gone. We'll get it back on the road better than ever within the next few years but it won't be a racer again...unless some punk in a fart can exhausted Honda wants a taste of Chevy orange between traffic lights and those 307 emblems will be there again!

He knows I have P.T.S.D. and T.B.I and I personally think it's cruel to treat a veteran this way. I found out he was laughing at me behind my back to my cousin-that I am close to. @@sarah_____conor back in '70 my dad picked me up from school in a 69 big block camaro that he was test driving. Back in those days, you could take the car home overnight. Yea it was 1970 and my dad was looking at the picked over 69 stuff from the back lot. He was always a bargain hunter. I was really disappointed when he decided on a green 69 camaro rs that was cat shit green 350 automatic. It was still cooler than my mothers 64 rambler american

Man you really know your stuff i hope too become as knowledgeable about my choice of car as you are, i know a lot about the engines and different years just you really show what else i need to know and its crazy looking at all these old engines and how they work its dope cause for example the fuel lines on a 1.6l miata 89-93(with HLAs) have a both a return and sender fuel line and upwards passes the 1.8l miatas 94-97 but when the NB platform was released it was only given one fuel line and has solid lifters, its just so interesting learning about different cars and how similar they all are but arent ;) again thank you!

This would be my dream car! My make a wish! I had a ‘71 back in ’83 that was pretty sweet. Engine had a larger Cam, 4 barrel & headers. She was fun! Now I’m suffering from cirrhosis and just remembering the good times!! What I’d give to have another one but with my limited income (disability) looks kinda slim! Watching this made my heart pump!! Thanks for showing! Please restore that beauty!!! But leave the vinyl roof and go hard top. Just my opinion... and keep that color & black stripes. It would even look better with the SS factory mags also painted the same color as the car! Sorry, I was dreaming again!! 🤣 Hope to see more on this car! 🚙💨 ✌️😎

I remember reading of the LS6 Chevelles and El Caminos in Hot Rod back in the later 80s. If I recall, the article mentioned that one could order a fairly stripped down version of the car meaning you could have had a column gear selector, and non-limited slip 'granny' LS6 equipped Chevelle. Kind of like how Buick offered their Grand National engine in the rare non-GN guise Regals around the same time I read the Chevelle article. For comparison, I am pretty sure one could not order a 'stripped' down Hemi 'Cuda (other than one meant for drag racing vs. grandma special).

A guy that lives around the corner from me has a 72 Chevelle with a 454, I used to work weekends with him but I never seen the car in person but I've seen pictures of it but I think he said its not a SS so the 454 wouldnt have come with the car and it needs body work but all Chevelles are still pretty cool.

In 1983 I found a 70 SS 396 in a barn of one of my friends. His dad was renting the space out to someone else so I got his phone number and made him an offer of $2500. Bought it the next week. The 402 had a bent #8 rod which was typical. So a friend and me rebuilt it and it ran good for about 2 years. Bent another rod and had a lifter break in half and got sucked up in the oil pump. So got tired of that block and all the trouble with it. So my buddy found a Stingray 427 435 HP block in a junkyard for $400. My friend and I did this one right. Took it down to the race shop and had it bored and balanced. Then spent 4 months rebuilding it. It would pull the front wheels off the ground with 4:56 gears. Kept it another 4 years and sold it for $8K after spending about $10K on it. But it was the meanest fastest car in town. Fathom Blue with pearl white stripes. What I would do now to find it but it probably got wrapped around a tree or blown up...lol

I had a 1972 SS Chevy El Camino that I purchased from a friend back in the 80’s that he had pulled the factory 454 from and put an LS6 454 in its place. It was one bad ride and when I street raced it I put several full sand bags in the rear just inside the tailgate. I sold it to a fellow who said he would be putting the LS6 in a 1968 Chevy Camaro SS that the original engine had been blown up. I never saw the Camaro or the El Camino again that I was aware of but it was a change I would never had made.He called me a liar about the engine being a real LS6 until I read the numbers off of it to him while he looked at the book that proved it. It was a far more powerful engine than the original engine that was put in the vehicle from the factory in 1972 by GM. I wish I had kept that ride but it is water under the bridge that is never coming back this way.
