That's a great find. It will be worth a fortune once restored (probably is now). For being off the road since 1979, it sure looks like it had a rough life for its first 9 years.

Amazing that these cars are still out there and still turning up. Hopefully the owner tries to restore the car. It would be financially challenging though. Don't know the owners financial situation, maybe he can afford it? If not, maybe PGN can help him sell it or purchase it himself. That car deserves a elite level restoration. Thank you for years of videos. I found your site not that long ago and have continued to watch an episode everyday. It’s nice to be at a car show, view a Chevelle, and be able to diagnose different items that may or may not make it a true version as it came out of the factory. One of my older cousins graduated high school in 1972 and that was his present here in Texas. It was a four speed LS6, in the mid 2000 his ex wife got mad at him One evening grabbed the keys and took, he got a call from her about twenty minutes later saying that she had wrecked it. Well she totaled it. It sat in his front yard for about six years covered,he wound up selling to someone who said that it was fixable. I do remember my cousin not driving it very much maybe four times a year and it had very low mileage. Thank you very much Patrick I really appreciate what you do.

I always find it amazing that these cars just keep popping up. You guys should see all the stuff my boss has...not Chevy stuff, but all Pontiac...rare GTO's, Judges etc....he has a bunch of restored cars and a bunch of projects...typically he has been getting about 2 restored per year...3 are in body shops right now.

Chevelles are the best. Was lucky enough to ride in a few of these when my granddad had his used car dealership in the late 60's/early 70's. This car is an awesome find hope it gets the restoration it deserves. Great video!

This is really exciting. If indeed this car was built in Feb. of 1966 at the Leeds Assembly plant in KC there is a 50/50 chance I worked on this car. I worked night shift on the body shop assembly line. I would have put the very first bolt or screw of any type into this body. Everything else at this point would have been welded on the body. Part of my job was to hang the door hinges which took 3 brass phillips head screws each. I would leave them hanging loose for the door install later down the line. At this point there is no front clip, deck lid, or bumpers. Just the bare body. Thanks for posting this. It sure brought back some memories for me.

Oh yes!!! A new Patrick Glenn Nichol's Muscle Car Barn Find video!!! It's like Christmas in June.

That’s why it has survived being off the road. Fellas I got my drivers liscence in 1980, and perforce cars were very reasonable and plentiful. They were just cars then, cheaper than the standard models because of gas mileage and dependability. Most were bought for a teenage boys first car. They were wrecked and ran to death had motors swapped and replaced with non factory correct high performance engines because numbers matching meant nothing back then. Like my first car, a super nice 65000 mile 71 Torino GT white with red interior. 351 Cleveland 4 barrel engine with hooker super cop headers ,fireball crane cam, elderbrock alum intake, Holley 750 dbl pmpr, Mallory dual point dist. Electric fuel pump in trunk to keep pressure from tank to mechanical pump, a C-6 3000 stall converter and 3:91 trac loc 9” rear. That car with all those 2nd day modifications was $1500 dollars. It was super nice original condition. Like finding a car a old lady had then modified. That’s how it was then,only gear heads would buy them. Unless you were born in the 50s or 60s you wouldn’t understand how people viewed them. They were just cars!

This never gets old

I had a 1968 Chevelle ss 396 that was set up for drag racing. It was not much fun driving on the road. Then I got a 1972 Buick Skylark custom. That car was nice. It was red with whie vinyl top and white interior with bucket seats and auto trans.

Man, a couple of armrest covers and seat covers, and a whole lot of cleaning, and that interior will be mint! Tuxedo Black with white stripes is the ultimate color combo on those too - just like Wooderson's LS6!

I love that year SS. I had a friend that had a black Chevelle SS with a 454cu from factory and the car was pretty fast back in the late 70s. I know it's not a car but I have a schwinn homegrown xt bicycle 1997 model that I put in the closet of my house in late 1997 a high end bike that hasn't seen the sun for 25 years. It still looks brand new. I guess it's rare too. I might put it on ebay some day.

70 Chevelle that was parked in '79, that must have been a rough 9 years. And that driver side seat that looks like a lot more than 9 years worth of butt sitting there.

for those wondering, the thm 400 in those cars were the same as any other 400 of that era, nothing special about them, they diden't have to be, they were as tough as nails from the get go. i retired 2 years ago, a professional transmission rebuilder and shop owner most of my adult life. the 400 was the best unit GM ever put out or ever will,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

When I see a car like this, it makes me think of my friend Robert that had one back in 78-9 in Midfield Alabama. I met him in 85, his description of it matched this car exactly. We worked together until his death in 2021. His description of it never changed and those stories always included that it was stolen in 79. I actually reminisced about that car with his mother at his funeral, and she just chimed right in with my story, saying that he always made such a big deal about it being an LS6, and offered up that it had been stolen and broke his heart. The car never was found. I am NOT saying that this is that car.

Obviously a fantastic solid car to restore but what kind of animals owned that car for the first 9 years of its life to end up looking trashed ? I know people loved to race them but my boring daily driver here is 9 years old with 75000 miles and still looks really clean. I'm always shocked how many of those desirable muscle cars got so neglected in their first few years 😥😥

Eventually you'll run out of LS6's to find. 40 years ago, I found one but was bought by someone else a day later. I do have a 70 Malibu I picked up 2 years ago, runner after i ditched the points and put a HEI in it, has the original 307 w/powerglide. Been working on a 4 bolt 454 w/ rectangular port heads for it, that's about done. Need to fix a little rust on the body and replace trunk pan but overall really solid. Very fortunate to find such a car in Alaska. It lives in my floor heated shop protected from the elements. Funny, mine had the same damage to the pass quarter panel at some point in its life.

That's a mean machine! The 4 speed LS6 is way more desirable but when they was new every one would tell you the automatic car was faster then a stick! Why no mention of the original color on the car, everything looks to be black but you said it was a respray? Thanks for what you do Patrick your at the top pf your game👍

Interesting my '72 4 door Skylark had the same arm rests on the doors and door lever. Also the car had someone rather large in the passenger seat the arm rest is rather crushed and repaired with tape. The stories this Chevelle could tell! 😊

I'd have been hiding it as well since 1979, with a SNOW tire on the port front. I didn't see any WHITE stripes, so now I'm kinda wandering, numbers matching, I mean who really cares, what a wonderful piece of history to have been totally disrespected! Love the video though man, and your honesty...

The LS6 used the same block as the LS5, however a 800-cfm Holley four barrel bolted to an aluminum manifold replaced the Rochester Quadra Jet. The LS6 featured a beefy bottom end with four-bolt mains, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods with forged aluminum, 11.25:1 compression pistons.

I one of my ownership goals for my bought new 2010 SRT Challenger was to keep it as original and rust free so that I could say that I had learned from all those musclecars I looked at in '79-'80 era which were dilapidated hulks, and become a more cautious caretaker. It remains, at 70,000 miles as new. And really, didn't take much.

Patrick found another, he's got a device or seeker that finds these cars lol!! , truth is, if you have or find a chevelle, you better be calling Patrick, he's got all the knowledge!!
