It's nice that they finally made one that looks (a bit) like the red MVS cabinet used in the west but they should have made start/select buttons white for accuracy.

PDubs, Always thought "too many times to the well" on this product. Now I remember pre-ordering the international version of this console with a controller day one for $99 and marveling on how great a deal that was! 40 games and not a fighter heavy line up. Mine came with classics such as King of the Monsters 1&2 along with the SHMUP Last Resort. I then remember seeing the myriad of different versions come out of this and eventually go on DEEP DISCOUNT (I picked up several of the International version for friends for $30 a pop). So when Unico announced this version, though cool, it just didn't seem like a smart move, especially since one can get the more balanced game library of the International version still from Amazon for under $60 as of this comment. HOWEVER, I do think Unico was smart by putting a different game lineup on their unit to differentiate it software-wise. For me, unless someone can get one of these out with the ENTIRE Neo Geo arcade library, I won't be interested. If it does happen, it will probably come from one of those companies that do rom-dump drives and get a hold of the plastic mold. The only thing I don't like about any of these Neo Geo Mini's is their button layout. After all these iterations, no one has had the where-with-all to make one a little wider and make the buttons match the US Arcade cabinet configuration. Another quick thing on the new Unico version of this. I hate that they didn't put the cool light up blue ring around the joystick. Though not necessary, a miss in my book. But in the end, I'll say this. Whether it be the new Unico design, or any of the Neo Geo Mini's, as Restalgia might say, these have LEAPS AND BOUNDS more value over the Arcade1Up Pac-Man XL. The Neo Geo Mini's have so many more games, the controls, though small, feel much more premium, and though also small, they have great looking screens vs the Pac-Man XL with its horrible screen uniformity issues due to the BOE monitor model Arcade1Up chose, placed at an angle it can't display properly in. But I digress :) These Neo Geo mini's blow my mind! I could've never fathomed back in the day when I was playing Neo Geo in commercial arcades, that I would get a miniature replica with SO MANY GAMES! Though these over saturated the market, I still love em! vgv

Thanks for making an in-depth review. Not gonna lie, even though I already have the International Mini, getting a version that finally has the red cabinet look made me tempted to buy this one, too. But seeing as the games are the Japanese home versions, I'll probably end up waiting for it to drop in price and probably end up modding it. And who knows if we'll end up getting another "special edition" that has the arcade versions instead which happened with previous releases of the Mini and ASP.

Great review. I already have the International and Japanese Minis. Disappointing since it isn't running MVS versions instead of AES.

I'm thinking this is probably meant to be an Evergreen Product. So now it's time to replace the previous inventory, add Unico on the side so they can make more of a Cut on each sold. I bought one of these for my Yiunger brother a couple of Years ago. I borrowed it a xouple of times to take to work and i really enjoyed it. But I would use it with a Mayflash F500 and wirh it i would have a nice experience. I preferred using the Built in Screen as the Pixel Density and size of the screen allow us to enjoy the games how they were intended to be seen. What I mean by that is the small screen allows rhe Art to be seen without the Pixelated look we always had when playing on a TV. I never got myself one, I may pick one one of the versions, maybe thr Original so i could get my hands on all the metal Slugs, and other games.

So, HDMI out is still just as poor with a blurry image even with the filters off?

Great review, thanks for the content on the minis. Big question though, have you checked out the Qanba 2009? It’s an arcade stick integrated into a computer desk similar to Vewlix cabinets. Seems like the best option for do it yourself Vewlix gaming. Would love your take on it! I’m sure your audience would be the perfect cross section of fighting game community and home arcades.

This MVS theme is cool but IMO the Christmas edition has the best selection of games but still annoying Neo Turf Masters hasn’t been on there NeoGeo minis

if they make like 4 button line like old mvs arcade layout would of been great

I loved the NeoGeo Mini, but mine stopped working after a number of months. Really a drag.

Can you use two controllers for player vs player on the mvs mini?

Great review. Disappointed that after such a long wait after the multiple versions that one turned out to be just the same again. I thought they would have taken time to improve the hdmi, controls etc. plus the game list is too fighter heavy. Won’t be buying this

Can you hack it to add the rest of the games? Total non CD version library is about 3.04GB, zipped.

No-one wants to see unico logo plastered all over it lol. Such a shame and waste in design too - not enough to upgrade. Its a pass for me. Hopefully they get it right on the next one.

Are the contollers long for you to sit on the couch?

It still doesn't have pixel perfect mode and still has that smoothing even if you turn everything off. Waste of money.

In the mvs mini can you change the language inside the games from japanese to english?

No thanks, I already have Neogeo mini international. I wish Hackhi on this and play on Atgames legends ultimate play on this bigger screen 😔 After years, this is Joke.
