A brilliant essential book to read about this is: “The Last Four Things, Death, Judgment, Hell, Heaven” by Fr. Martin Von Cochem, O. S. F. C.

I would love to know more. In this video you have addressed the scriptures often used to support "immediacy" and explained how immediacy is not present in them. You also indicated that these scriptures don't negate the concept of the soul's journey. But are there scriptures that directly support the soul's journey? Is the concept purely a product of tradition? I don't mean to be critical here--I ask out of a genuine desire to know more... :)

Father. I found that baptism did exist before the cross. John 4:1-2 It's easy to miss this passage.

What about someone who may be in such a place before actually leaving their body? 😢

After death, do we enter eternity, that is, are we outside time? So, yes, there is a process toward/into Christ, but perhaps not in the linear timeline way we understand?

While you did mention verses that are misinterpreted on what happens when we die, you however didn't mention verse that supports the teaching of praying for the dead. Can you assist me with actual scripture from the bible that supports that teaching?

I am a bit confused. You said that the thief who repented entered heaven without needed baptism because baptism did not exist yet, however we see Jesus getting baptized along with others. Can you elaborate some more on this?

It’s like a journey but he didn’t say as to where the non believers or fake Christians end up? Do they just remain in ground or in the earthly realm awaiting judgment? Do the believers go to heaven? What does he mean by Journey? I thought the whole point of the earthly life WAS the journey.

I wonder what the interpolation of Lazarus being carried to Abraham's bosom would be? And, interesting that when it comes to proving the journey of the soul, so-called, no references to the Sacred Scripture is offered.

Fr. with all due respect and forgive my ignorance, but it seems you are arguing from silence just because the word “immediately” isn’t included in the verses you brought up. I heard no argument for a long journey of the soul either. Even the description of St. Anthony’s vision. The souls moving past the Satan with no anxiety or concern, moving upwards doesn’t describe this long journey. On the contrary, seems what Paul is describing. Where does this tradition come from? Your explanation of Christ's words to the thief on the cross was poor. "Today, you will be with me in Paradise" is very clear and deserves far better explanation. You can't just brush off what Christ said like that.

The apostles received the holy Spirit before being baptized. You are quoting someone "Saint Anthony" who seems to have had a dream and you take it at face value not knowing if it's just a regular dream like everyone else's and we are suppose to think that is real and should become doctrine????? That's why there is so many today claiming to dream while in heaven or hell and are making tons of money. I'm shocked that the church would follow someone's dream. Oh you might say it's a Saint, well let me remind you that the Bible calls all believers saints and it's not up to a church or pastor to make it ordain someone to be a Saint. Bible is clear and makes distinction from a believer and a non believer and the believers are called saints and there many examples on this in the Bible. I would much rather listen to Paul when he says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord just like the Bible tells us, the blinking of an eye. I agree with many of the Orthodox doctrines but there are some that are unbiblical.
