@pennyk1943 maybe it didn't occur to them, maybe they're confused, lost. Maybe it's pressure. It's a bit unfair to assume people don't seek counsel from their parents and priests because they're selfish. Seeing as though most parents and religious authorities I've spoken to have destroyed my trust

If you think it's okay to come to the monastery for that, then yes, but maybe it would be better to think about the whole concept of Orthodoxy, because I personally think that it's the only way to touch the heavens.

I am a 25 year old detransitioning woman. I decided to stop feeding into my trans-identity less than a year after I had amputated my breasts and 3 years on hormones. I thought that amputating my breasts and distancing myself from everything that was naturally feminine about my body, would make me feel happy and free.. It did not, instead I just felt more broken and lonely than ever before. I realized that we only get one life on this earth, and this body is the single most precious gift I have.. One, healthy, perfectly made vessel through which I get to experience all that life has to offer, but instead of cherishing it, I was punishing it. I had to work very hard to deconstruct the internal, mental and emotional system of ideas that led me to pursue transition in the first place. It was difficult, but certainly worth the time, pain and effort. 4 years have passed since I first began de-transitioning and I feel good. I converted and became a catholic 2 months ago, I'm getting married in two months, I have good friends who pray for me and look out for me. I never thought I would heal from all the damage I caused to myself, but here we are. All praise be to God. Guard your children from harmful infuences and teach them how to resist and use reason when they encounter dangerous ideas.

My daughter was raised in a rural place and we had no internet, she watched two movies a week and no tv. She was only exposed to the internet and video games when she was 10. She is 14 now and can see the world so much more clearly than other teenagers her age. She says the kids her age think all the stuff online is normal because they were exposed so young. I did social media fasts during Lent this year and last, and it was massively helpful. It showed me how dependent I was on instant entertainment and distraction. In a week or so, I was so much more peaceful and productive. When I returned, I could see how social media jerked my emotions around. As I type this, maybe I feel a nudge to do a social media fast now.
@user-ql8ir1mb2b
@user-ql8ir1mb2b 15 күн бұрын
This is why the only thing I use is KZfaq I don't really consider it social media. I don't have a Facebook I don't have a Twitter I don't have an Instagram I don't have any of that trash. I really think social media is one of the most evil bad things that you can have on your phone. Phone's themselves are very addicting.. when you slap on something like social media and then being all obsessed with your online presence you have a dangerous combination especially for kids or for people who are grown ups but not grown up emotionally and mentally and there's a lot of those out there.. You should just quit social media. Stop fasting from it just quit it. I am so much happier since I quit it back in 2016. And I used to be a heroin addict.. I think if I was still using social media even though I've only been clean for 141 days. I think if I was still using social media it would be 10 times harder for me to stay clean because it would have been 10 times harder for me to cut all the people I needed to out of my life and it would be harder to hide from those people. You know how people are when you try to distance yourselves they tend to pop back in your life or try to find ways to pop back in your life. I had to smash my phone change my number all kinds of crazy stuff but I'm glad I did it. Now I've graduated from trade school(CNC). I'm about to start my apprenticeship at an awesome tool and die shop. I just got my first credit card 40 days ago about. I just financed my first vehicle an SUV and literally just got it two days ago. I don't think I would have any of those things because I wouldn't be able to stay clean and sober if I had social media. It's just too hard to distance yourself with social media from bad people or people that you want to distance yourself from. Even if you block them you still are going to get the temptation once in awhile to speak with them one day or they might just make a new profile there's just too many variables. When you get rid of it outright, not only are you freed from caring about your worthless online presence that literally means nothing but you have the opportunity to escape from everybody that you really don't want to associate with, completely. Not only that you don't have to worry about seeing stuff that you don't want to see reading stuff that you don't want to read. You don't have to worry about being censored. You don't have to worry about the online you at all. Unfortunately KZfaq itself is getting really censory. I've seen my comments get deleted days later even weeks later but I've seen them go bye-bye if I'm talking about a certain thing. I've watched them get deleted in real time minutes after posting. I've watched myself post comments say they're posted and then they don't post. I've had it just say that it can't post it because there's some error. Anytime I talk about something too heavily God related on most videos it gets deleted or it just will not post. I've started to notice other people talking about this a little bit more in the comments on random videos. I stopped making comments much of the time because it's just not worth it because I can't truly say what I want to say most of the time. I wouldn't be surprised if this disappeared. there's been so many times that I've checked back on previous videos from months back or weeks back and tried to search for my comment under a certain post or just look through the comments if it was my opening post and in both situations I've seen them just be gone.. and it's always because I'm either talking about God and doing the right thing in accordance to God's will or it's when I'm talking about being clean and sober from drugs or when I'm talking about conservative values. Give KZfaq five more years.. you won't even recognize it. You should just get off social media. Why fast from it? It's not a necessity like food. That's like fasting from smoking.. or fasting from dope.. why not just quit?. I'm not trying to hate on you I'm not talking smack about you I'm just giving you a suggestion because I think you would be a lot happier if you just dumped it all together. I have nothing but respect for you for taking fasts from social media but I think the right thing to do and if you really pray about it and talk to God about it he will tell you the same thing, drop it altogether. The best part about that the void that will be left over from not having social media God will fill that with something righteous and good he always does.

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan. About an hour and a half away is the monastery that Fr. Roman Braga served in until his repose. I was maybe 15 or 16 on my first visit for one of their “work days” where the community comes together and helps the nuns take care of outside tasks. I remember standing next to a pond with a circle of men talking when I saw a small man draped in black make his way towards us. He joined our circle, would occasionally speak very quietly & gently. But the thing I will never forget is what I felt in that moment. I felt his love. That’s probably the best way to describe an indescribable feeling. His face shined when he spoke. Time slowed down, my attention was solely fixed on this gentle quiet man. I’ve heard someone describe being next to a Saint by saying they “were making the grass grow” and I like that phrase. I’ve visited Holy Dormition Monastery many times since it holds a special place in my family’s heart. Even when you said his name in the video I got excited & had to comment. Thank you for this video, I enjoyed the topic very much. God bless you Fr. Paul & Memory Eternal to Fr. Roman ☦️

As mankind we are so caught up with our egos that we have a distorted view of what love is. Fr. Paul is absolutely correct on this teaching. I have found a lot of churches teach what we must do to be saved. I have found that salvation is mercy extended to us. And mercy and love is the Orthodox Church. Some “Christians” will condemn and judge out of spite and this superiority complex which is not true Christianity. We can judge with righteousness and love and we are commanded not suggested to love our neighbor as ourselves. That commandment alone is so powerful and changing when we tap in to what it truly means. Mercy and love. Not tolerance for evil things but mercy and love and compassion. I highly recommend you go to your nearest Orthodox Church. Don’t worry about if it’s Russian or Greek or Antiochian. Just go. My first liturgy I was in tears with how powerful it was and what God showed me that day.

My sister was violent to her boyfriends. I am glad I knew that God did not want me to have girlfriends. I would have been violent and just used them for the obvious with no love involved from my part. I am also glad I went to God with what we called back then Gender Identity Disorder. I had it age 9-34. It was caused by violence in the home, bullying in childhood and being around the sex industry. I had no good female role models but men were kind, good, intelligent and supportive. I identified with the behaviours of the men around me and not with the nasty, sexual and sexuality gets you everywhere behaviours of the women around me. That is why I thought I was a different gender and wanted a man’s body. I am glad I went to God about this and He took me out of the poisonous environment and I was healed instantly. Seems not widely understood, but childhood trauma causes undeveloped identity. Including possibly the most socially accepted of childhood traumas, divorce. Also, we don’t question allowing our children to be raised by institutions. Unstable identities are easily directed to dark corners

I see how many problems are în America' s society. The more we struggle to survive in a society that gives you the freedom to give up Christ, the very essence of our lives, the greater our problems become. America is in great need for Orthodoxy, and I pray God that every American in seek of Christ, to experience the encounter of Orthodoxy like Seraphim Rose had .

Fr. Paul Truebenbach, not sure if you will see these comments but I wanted to thank you for you catechism classes. I have been going through them and will most likely become a Catechumen this Sunday down South at St. Xenia's with Fr. Justin. BTW - I think the link to your channel above in the description may be off. Hopefully *Root of Orthodoxy* sees this so they can correct it.

Totally agree with the vacuum. But also digital world and social media is huge impact, also social isolation. People don’t belong to anything socially, they just fill they mind with constant media input that’s so fast they don’t even consciously know what they are feedinh their minds with. It’s a kind of hypnosis. But who’s the hypnotist?

Years ago I moved several hours away from where my family was. Once I moved, I’d began to read the word like never before. I would read the word morning at noon and night. I had no desire for television or social media. I had weened myself off of all electronics. It’s the closest I’ve ever felt to God. I went years without watching any kind of television unfortunately, I had a roommate that moved in and when realizing I didn’t have cable got it for my room as well. I wish it never happened because I was truly focused on the Word of God. I’m still in the Word but no where near where I was.

Thank you, Father. Your words give us strength and clarity in times of confusion. It reminds me that the Word of God is an infinite spring, and whoever drinks from it will never be thirsty. I find it interesting that in his work, C.G. Jung foresees the loss of identity and meaning in the life of modern man due to the rise of atheism. The fact that C.G. Jung was more of a man of science than a religious man makes me think of the words of Basil the Great in his "Address to Young Men on Greek Literature" prompting the youth to read the pagan philosophers and poets but always under the light of Jesus Christ. On the other hand, some people mention that psychology, specifically the psychology of depth, is only now able to comprehend and "verify" what was written in the works of Maximus the Confessor hundreds of years ago.

Exactly, the people who are going with the flow are the ones who have courage, yet the ones who go against the flow are not courageous. It's upside down. I remember the late Norm McDonald shocked everyone when he told that to someone on a show that he was judging on. He was a Christian and said just about the same thing. God Bless Father Truebenbach.
