@@phajduk86 it’s actually more dish-shaped...curls up on the sides a lil. The waves near Antarctica do tend to be more dramatic like this but only because the water sloshes up around the sides of the bowl some and that’s what makes the waves around those parts appear larger. The planet can’t be perfectly flat because otherwise what would hold in all the waters of the oceans? It just makes sense that there is a bowl-like quality to plizzanet earth. Sure this could be computer generated but that’s pretty close to what things look like near the curled up edges of the world.

@@ayadiwata Thinking such as that is what keeps us warring with one another over something we never can truly own... Only lay claim to for a time. As we live on this planet, we kill it and ourselves faster trying to prove who owns what. We own nothing but time here and the sooner its realized perhaps then we can exist in peace. Doubtful, as everyone needs to say who owns what and lay their little claims down... as we always have. Fighting as animals for territory... well, animals migrate...why shouldn't humans have as well? The downfall of humanity is the pompous thinking that we are in any control here... one large enough asteroid or solar flare and we lose our footing and creature comforts. i cooked on a crab boat out of Kodiak, Alaska. This was waaaaaay before THE DEADLIEST CATCH. I saw waves that no one else that i know, ever has. There was "Green water over the Wheelhouse". That meant we went right THROUGH a 70 ft. wave. The tops of big waves are foamy and white. The center of those waves are the same color as the rest of the ocean. In Alaska the Being sea is this beautiful color of green glass... like the bottom of a old 7uP bottle! .. Jade like. The force of the wave took out all of the windows i in the wheel house (where the Captain Steers the Dang boat)... A few alarms went off but no Survival Suits had to be put on. But... it was the scariest and most exhilarating moment of my entire life. i was 28 then... I'm 64 now and NOTHING has topped That memory or that feeling. 1,000 ft. high roller coaster ride would pale in comparison!

There was a good movie years ago called, "The Last Wave", starring Richard Chamberlain. It was about a man who had a very good and spiritual relationship with Australian Aborigines. Visions kept coming to him... and them. They didn't share everything. It had to be interpreted. You kept seeing scenes that were just clips of thoughts and then reality returned. He, and those watching with their popcorn (lol!), kept trying to solve meaning of the clips. The end was great!! Over the years, I must have watched that movie 5 times.

Ernest Shackleton and his three companions had to brave the Southern Ocean in the ship's lifeboat (their ship, the Endurance, had been crushed in the ice) on their voyage between Whale Island and South Georgia. One night they encountered a similar giant wave. The boat was an open boat, but they had covered it in canvas precisely because of this risk.

To all those who seem to feel the urge to thank the bravery of their forefathers that had such encounters on wooden ships: In modern times ships still get often sunk by those waves. The danger is not the The incredible power of these monster waves but that the ship is pulled under water or overturned. The sailor speaking in the video is rightly afraid. This looked pretty close.

Imagine doing this in a small. Sailing vessel like Sir Francis Drake did when he navigated this passage the first time back at the beginning of the age of sail. It scared him so bad that the next time he needed to get to the Pacific coast, he sailed to what is now the isthmus of Panama where he beached his ships, removed the rigging, sails and everything of value and burned the ships to get the nails back. Ported everything they're saved over the mountains to the Pacific coast where they cut down trees and built new ships. That's how rough sealing through Drake's Passage was, how badly. It terrified the experienced pirates that traveled with this British Elite with a license to privateer which is a permit to pirate anyone and everyone but British Interests as long as they don't use the nation's flag.

Nothing bests having to throttle up over waves to drop down the other side and carry on. Scary but if you got someone who is good at the wheel its exciting and terrifying
