This video reminds me of my childhood back in the 60s and 70s in Laos where the land, forests, rivers and almost everything else belonged to both the people and the government. We could build any house on any place at anytime. The land was ours. We could farm anywhere without restrictions. No licenses required for hunting and fishing (the rivers and the forests were ours). Life was so natural. Life was so good. Life was so FREE.

Are their boarding schools like our residential schools? Are the children safe at school? Please ask them if they suffer at school. In Canada, our 1st nations peoples suffered greatly at the hands of the government. All of their children were seized, forced into boarding schools, where they were separated from their siblings, forced to speak English, whipped and tortured and killed for breaking any rules. These were Christian churches, run by priests who raped both girls and boys. In Canada we are just beginning the long process of reconciliation. I hope and pray that these children are safe at boarding school. Please ask them. And they may be forced into silence around abuse... Please ensure to get the truth.

I understand the elders’ concerns about the children not wanting to live a traditional life after being away at boarding school ten months of the year. It is hard on the children and hard on the family left behind. The younger children are deprived of their siblings also. I love watching the children playing as they are at the same time perfecting skills they will use as they grow up. Beautiful glimpses into the lives of the people of the Chukchi area thanks to you.

I think the old man is right unfortunately :( They should make an exception for people living in such awfully remote areas according to such ancient traditions and allow them to continue their lifestyle without compulsory education. Imagine not seeing your kids 10 months out of the year :'(( And yes, they will be alcoholics in the city as they have no tolerance for it. Очень печально ((

To bad their government can not build a school for the local community. So that they do not have to travel so far. But one problem would be, if the children move, who will be there to teach. Since they are Nomads.

I think it should be a choice if the parents want to send their kids to school and further their education. This shouldn’t be the governments decision as these people live their life in drastically different measures than most people. They live in a survival based environment.

The residents of the tundra zone can speak either Mongolian or Russian, so it is not possible to determine their specific geographical location solely based on the language used in the video. The tundra zone is a vast geographical region that stretches between Russia and Mongolia, so the language spoken by the residents may be influenced by both countries. The tundra zone does not belong to any specific country; it is a specific geographical and ecological region. The tundra zone refers to vast areas in high-latitude regions, typically near the Arctic Circle, where the land is primarily covered by mosses, low shrubs, and cold-adapted grasslands. The tundra zone usually spans across multiple countries, including Russia, Canada, Greenland, Alaska, and some Nordic countries such as Norway, Sweden, and Finland. These regions within the tundra zone have similar geographic and climatic characteristics, including cold climates, short summers, long winters, and permafrost. Therefore, the tundra zone is a geographical concept that spans across multiple countries and does not belong to any specific country.
