Fighting continuing after a war was over is historically more common than an immediate stop to all fighting. It took a lot longer for information to be spread in the past, so in some places people could be fighting on for days, weeks or even months before they got word that the war was over.
@Someguyhere111
@Someguyhere111 5 ай бұрын
In the case of WW1 though, commanders on both sides KNEW that the treaty had been signed and that the war would end on 11th November at 11:00, but in a bid to get some last-minute glory, they not only told their men to keep fighting, they actually ordered pushes into enemy trenches, and any soldier that didn't follow orders was killed. These same commanders were of course totally safe, far away from the pointless fighting going on. Soldiers died literally minutes before the ceasefire went into effect, just because some fatass wanted more medals on his jacket.

@@Someguyhere111 that makes a lot of sense... not in the regard of it being logical, but in the regard of it sounding very in character for military leadership from what history has shown.

Speaking of WW2 mustaches, I saw this funny comic where Spiderman teams up with Captain America for a day and Cap is extremely impressed by Spiderman. Later Cap sees a newspaper by John Jonah Jameson Jr. calling Spiderman a possible criminal. He goes and confronts Mr. Jameson and informs him that he was with Spiderman and the Spiderman is no criminal. Cap then remarks on how Mr. Jameson reminds him of someone else that had a similar mustache (he had a toothbrush mustache in the comic) as him. The next panel shows him with the mustache shaved off.

OK that’s a weird coincidence I literally just saw a video on that comic like half an hour ago lol yeah that’s what the reference is considering Captain America is a super soldier who fought in World War II and quite literally punched Hitler “Spider-Man isn’t a menace I know what a menace looks like” and it shows JJ’s skinny mustache clearly referencing Hitler

4:00 that's funny that you say that, because historians COMMONLY refer to the multitude of events leading up to Ferdinand's assassination as a powder keg, and his killing as the spark that sets it off.

My Great Grandfather had the misfortune of being the radioman on Kaiser Wilhelm's private ship. And the deeper misfortune of having to send the message that Germany was declaring war on Russia after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Oh, and Germany getting shafted at the end of WW1 is a direct cause of WW2.
@MalekitGJ

I never understood that, the whole thing was Austria's fault & incompetence. Also, France didn't win the war, his allies did. So never understood why they felt so "Great" to not need to be properly trained & geared for any coming wars after the Great War.

@@kennethcook9406 sry, I think I should have been more clear: Why the F did they throw the "Fault" at Germany? The Austrians were the ones who started all that mess! It was a simple 3 step: 1. Prepare for war 2. Declare war 3. Invade Serbia But nooooo... they had to Declare war first, then do nothing UNTIL Russia was ready to mobilize.

@@MalekitGJ Serbia was already part of Austria-Hungary (the Austro-Hungarian empire) There was no "invasion" The Serbian Nationalists could also be called "Separatists" Otherwise, I agree with you. Germany got the blame because they were the most effective military on that side of the war.

The events that day that led to Gavilo Princep being able to assassinate Franz Ferdinand was a series of major coincidences..The driver, who was his personal driver, did not know the streets of the city that well...he took a wrong turn, down the wrong street, and his car stalled when they tried reversing....it was random that it was on the same street as the deli that Princep was having a consolation lunch at, and Princep's gun did not misfire, which was a problem that plagued a NUMBER of the other would-be assassins...
@Gohka
@Gohka 5 ай бұрын
Not to mention the absolute shit-show the assassins had made of the whole thing yet to still wind up killing him, if I remember correctly there were 7 of them, the guy who threw the bomb that missed, to escape jumped off a bridge in to what he thought was a river but turned out to only be a foot or so deep so broke his legs, 2 or 3 of them had just left before Franz Ferdinand even arrived, pretty sure something stupid happened to another one as well. Princep was the only one left and went to a nearby café or something assuming the whole thing had been a failure. Then because Ferdinand's driver took that wrong turn they stopped outside that café to turn the car around. Plus though like you said Princep's gun didn't misfire but he did somehow miss the point blank shot and killed Ferdinand's wife first. Has to be the luckiest or unluckiest assassination of all time.

The ultimatum to Serbia was mostly accepted, except for one point: The Serbians refused to let the Austrian govt do an investigation in Serbia about their connections to Ferdinand's assassination, which is the most important thing and really makes Serbia look guilty.

The Austrian ultimatum was designed to be rejected. It included ten demands which basically amounted to the subjugation of Serbia. Moreover the ultimatum was timed to be received when the Serbian PM was out in the countryside, and the French PM was out of his country (on a ship returning from Russia). Since this move could hardly be a coincidence, informed opinion immediately saw that Austria was really drafting a pretext for war, and there was no way they could have risked it without German support. It was however a bad pretext, immediately condemned by all concerned. First it was made a whole month after the assassination, so public opinion had turned away from sympathy for Austria. Then the Serbian response accepted all the demands but only asked for 'further explanations' as to the most damning (letting Austrian agents operate freely in Serbia). So the Austria DoW was seen as shameful and in bad faith. It also seemed like German wire-pulling designed to provoke general war to humble France and Russia. The German ambassador at Paris even made a point of walking the streets as much as possible that week, so that if he were attacked that might make a better pretext.
