This is a series of meandering conversations about Indian food that cut across science, nutrition, history, and absurd trivia. The first one is about Salt, something that everyone needs in their diet every single day.

There's an inventor in the US who has created a small gun of sorts in which you can load rock salt and fire it at houseflies and kill them. You can say it is a form of asalt.

The audio only version would be very convenient to listen to. If you are planning a series of such conversations, can you please upload them to a podcast site?

Thanks for the information about overcook of egg. During colonial time an invisible wall crated to disrupt transportation of Salt. That disrupted other supply chain as salt was base of sale conversion. That led to famine. ‘Uppu Veli’ book talks about it.

Were there no subsequent episodes of this series? Request you to pls upload the same. The biggest advantage of this format is we can listen to this ‘on the go’ (as against Instagram).

For food to taste appropriately salty (for a given person), if you put 1%, 1.5%, or 2% salt, does that not depend (a lot) on the food you are salting? Maybe even more than the culture/country factor? On the topic of why Indians might prefer spicier saltier food preparations, highly recommend first half of below video from Adam. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNF2drhp1LzMdnU.html

percentages, so the amount wont matter
@sagar696

@@krishashok I meant different foods might call for different percentage of salt (for same person). For example plain scrambled eggs might call for 1% salt, but something like curry or upma might call for 1.5% salt to reach same perceived saltiness for same person.
