Absolutely love Patti LaBelle. There was such a message in this song for young people. Black or white doesn't matter the song tells a great story and sad ending. Thank you so much for sharing this video.

Agreed but it's mainly our young women the black community white girls they are like that in a way but it's mainly our young girls. But I agree with you.
@jemimajoel3 күн бұрын
@@craigwright8216 yalll forgetting there is also message in this song for older folks, fathers specifically. they need to check on their daughters, sometimes they get so rooted in discipline, and don't realize the importance of providing for their daughters emotionally, their daughters go to streets and suffer

I knew when I first heard the sounds of this song it had Prince written all over it (just as when I heard Manic Monday). I've pointed out several songs that just by listening to the music, Prince had something to do with it. My heart is so broken you're no longer sharing your journey with us. Grieving the loss of you and all you represent will be so difficult. Thank you for what you've left behind to share with all your friends. I pray your true legecy will shine on forever being a beacon of love and light in this world.

Too close to the Truth, people just can't handle the truth, maybe if we could, we could all work 2gether to prevent these beautiful young people from ever getting hooked, like getting rid of drugs, come on now people you have put a man on the moon, and U can't get the drugs off the streets

It's funny that in all those "songs that make you cry" lists we never see songs like this, with this type of lyrical content. Sure, it's up tempo but the imagery is there even without the video. A father abandoning his child coldly to the streets, "...just like her mother...", a life needlessly cut short. It's almost painful.

Suuper cool dance song of the 80,s ! just like the others alike that Prince made in that time And Ms Patti Labelle makes the song perfect to fit to the rest of the melody and all then background fill in perfect . just love it.!

Incredible power song, not to mention Patti LaBelle's explosive performance. And yes, I agree with many of the posts here. The message of this song is even more relevant today, more than two decades after it was recorded. Sad, but true, that "How's your daughter tonight?" remains such a potent, emotionally-charged question to so many parents.
